Because of a family funeral, I just had to cancel my reservation at the
Econo Lodge Space Center
3220 N. Cocoa Blvd. (US 1),
Cocoa, FL, US, 32926
Phone: (321) 632-4561
Hope someone else can use it! I'm unsure what events I'll be able to watch live, but you can be sure I'll be using NSF a lot from my mobile in the coming days!

Quick question if anyone knows the answer.
Is it possible to drop a placard-less person with a Causeway ticket off at the VC?
I have a friend who has a VC admission/LTT ticket, but no placard. I am driving to the press site for the Tweetup and can do so by way of the VC. Can I drop him at the entrance? I'd just drop him at the entrance to the parking lot, and pick him up after launch.

Does anyone in the Brevard area know if Hwy 50 (Cheney Hwy/Colonial) or 520 (via Hwy 3) offer distinct advantages for getting from KSC back to Orlando? Or will these alternate routes be just as clogged as the Beachline Hwy?

So, my placard for STS-135 says arrive by 5:00 a.m., but I see on e-Bay that other placards are staggered anywhere from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. What time do I realistically need to arrive?
I'd say 30 minutes before the time of the latest placard photo you've seen with your own eyes. 6AM sounds safe. 7AM is approx. L-4 hours and I'd be getting pretty jumpy. You don't want an unforeseen delay getting you locked out.
Is it possible to drop a placard-less person with a Causeway ticket off at the VC?
If they have a KSC issued VC/Causeway ticket, as far as I can see that should be fine - it's not like they match people to a car in the lot.
Don't try it if they have a tour bus issued Causeway ticket - they'll be able to get in the VC, but probably won't be able to get on the bus to the Causeway, and if they did, you won't be seeing them back at the VC after launch!

Anyone have a spare parking pass to get into the visitor center? I'm buying!!!!!!!
We have tickets but don't want to be stuck on the bus. The wife isn't very happy..........
Thanks
David
It does not work that way. If you have FDT or Gator tickets, you need to ride their bus in.
If you are just taking FDT or Gator for Visitors Complex viewing, you might be able to do this, as you go through the same gate at KSCVC as everyone else, if I recall correctly.
If you are taking FDT or Gator for Causeway viewing, you can't do that, as you ride the same bus to the Causeway.
My tickets are just for the visitor Center.

The best course of action will be to go the day before and see if they have any extra parking placards. They sometimes do.

Looks like I just solved our not wanting to be stuck on a bus to/from the Visitor Center viewing. I bought tickets with a parking placard for VC viewing LOL! I guess I have 3 extra tickets for the visitor center now. Anyone need them?

Does anyone know if you need to remove the folding chairs from the bags for inspection? I know Airshow do this sometimes.
Here's hoping for a break in the weather for Friday!

I've been offered an orange ticket and a parking placard. Is this enough to see the launch from the causeway or do I need a blue ticket as well? I have a car.
Thank you in advance.

You will need a blue ticket.
The KSCVC ticket (blue) gets you inside the gates where the Causeway LTT bus ticket (Green for tour bus, Orange for KSC) is collected and you board the bus headed for the causeway.
Being that you have a placard, that actually makes your hunt pretty benign; KSCVC tickets are pretty easily obtainable from what I've seen.

I've seen it go both ways, don't offer unless they ask, just slows down the line.

I've been through there 11 times for launches and never had to take my chair out. We did used to have to turn on every electric device. That hasn't happened in a couple years though.
Does anyone know when the VC will open this time?

for STS-131, I saw some people taking their chairs out, perhaps they were just doing it , not sure, maybe they looked suspicious to the guard and he asked, that's all I know. We didn't get asked by our security person to remove ours ever.

Carrying those around seems like a hassle, but I've never been so don't know. Is it worth the effort? Don't know about bringing them on the plane, either. Southwest is pretty flexible, but not sure if they'd let them on board.
We'll be on the causeway, arrival is 4am. Hoping to visit KSC for a bit before and after launch, which is why I want to think twice.
Looking for thoughts/opinions. I think my plan was to bring a sheet to lay out and sit on. And some umbrellas if it's drizzly or intense sun.
Thoughts?

How early do I think I should arrive in titusville to watch from there? any tips on parking?
I've asked the same questions with no replies so far.
Hopefully someone will see either your question or mine. I'm planning to be at Space View Park with my family to see the launch, our first ever.
We're driving from Houston, and tonight we're staying in Baton Rouge, with further progress planned for tomorrow.

I have always toted a chair simply because I like a little distance between the fire ants and my tender parts. But that's just my personal preference.

I think it's real hard to say. For the first STS-133 attempt in Nov, the first row along the water at Kennedy Point Park was already occupied with folding chairs at ~8AM for a ~4PM launch (though there was still plenty of room in the park).
It's already been observed that STS-134 had a smaller crowd due to the 2 week delay. Also, the early morning launch time meant a lot of people probably waited until daylight to head to viewing locations. I scoped out several places around 2AM in Titusville, where there were some die-hard campers, but it was emptier than the STS-133 Nov attempt above. I wound up at Haulover Canal which was pretty much deserted until sunrise.
My *guess* would be if you want a front row seat at the park, arrive the night before and plan on car-camping or some such. Otherwise, get out there around first light of dawn - that's still L-6 hours or so. Having said that, if a million people show up like Florida Today is estimating, it might be mind-bogglingly crowded everywhere at a very early hour.
Oh, and probably keep an eye on these threads - I'm sure folks will post situation reports as places fill up.

I'm always too keyed up to really sit... I figure I'll have hours to sit on the bus getting out of there, I'll stand/pace for a couple hours in the meantime

If it's anything like the first STS-134 launch attempt, I would expect lots of traffic, especially AFTER the launch. People start trickling in and as the sun rises, the trickle turns into a torrent. The road from 528 up to Titusville, FL-407, the Challenger Memorial Parkway, was clear as of 5:30 am though. I think after the Sun rose, traffic started backing up along that route (although I was on the bus in Merritt Island, headed to KSCVC and then the Causeway, by that point).
When the launch was scrubbed, I checked Google Maps on my phone and noticed that traffic on FL-528 back to Orlando, west of the interchange with FL-520 near Taylor Creek Rd, was just awful. So I took a detour, south on Nova Rd/Co Rd 532, then through St Cloud on US-441 and back to Disney World from the southeast. But after the second attempt, the traffic jam that I was sure would be worse (because after the scrub, some of the people probably stuck around for lunch instead of everyone trying to leave at the same time, not to mention that some people didn't know about the scrub until 15-20 minutes after it happened) never materialized. In fact, it was a quick ~70-90 minute drive back to Orlando on FL-528.
