If there was such an article, it was incorrect. But I don't think there was. I recall it being more like if there is no cargo flight this year *and* STS-135 doesn't happen, ISS *might* need a reduction in crew size.

Also STS-135 is going to carry enough cargo to last a year if no resupply flight.

Yes, I said that. Note my emphasis on the word "and".

It's looking more and more like if the mission is combined that SpaceX will not fly anything in 2011.

Yeah, but wasn't there an article out a few months saying that NASA would have to decrew the ISS if there wasn't a cargo flight this year?

Musk said something to that effect but he was assuming that STS-135 was not going to fly. This was before the FY2011 appropriation bill was passed.

Fine with me, I'd rather have a combined COTS mission in early 2012 Jan. Feb. than 2 rushed COTS missions over the same time frame. Better, if combined to get it right. No one likes to wait but in the meantime we can get excited about the first Taurus 2 launch in Fall/Winter.

Tick tock, tick tock....but in the meantime, it is imperative we rid the world of everything that exists within US inventory now that can service ISS.

How long can "we" remain "excited" when ISS is in the danger zone and still expect all the things that are within the popular knowledge-base to come to pass and come to pass so that they have a real, meaningful impact on the future?

That's the problem that is ignored by so many.

I agree with you 100%.  These problems are to be expected, but this isn't the first delay and I'm sure it won't be the last. I suspect that retiring the shuttle prematurely will prove very detrimental to the ISS program as we face logistics support and maintenance/repair capability shortfalls that cannot be compensated for with existing vehicles (Soyuz, Progress, ATV, and HTV).

And does anyone really believe we'll have a manned Dragon (or DreamChaser or anything else) ready to go by 2015?  Fat chance...

As a matter of fact, plenty of people belive that. As far as Dragon has come in four years, it's not a stretch at all to think it could be ready for crew in another four. It makes a big difference when a company has the resources and doesn't have the attitude that development is an endless cash cow.

(hands Chris a dollar for wasting COTS 2 space for a post that should have been in CCDev2)

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is !

Well, I tried to move my discussion to the discussion thread, but it's gone now.  I struggle with a comment of mine being removed when the inaccurate one I was addressing remains.

Specifically, I disagree with OV-106 that the problem is being ignored.  You may not like how it is being managed but it is NOT being ignored.
If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

Honestly, I'm not sure what you mean by this Antares.

Here is the last time you took issue with me:

http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=24179.msg743807#msg743807

and here is where you then essentially agreed with me saying we're on the same page:

http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=24179.msg743839#msg743839

Not sure what has changed?

That comment is more than a week old.  It was overcome by those posts you cite.

Although this video is about the upcoming Soyuz launch, starting at 30:45 there is commentary about a combined Spacex COTS 2/3 launch to the ISS along with current projections about the time line.

Adam Harris talking about SpaceX - few times mentions about COTS2/3.

Also "I don't want to make news about Merlin 2" sounds interesting.
Lot of interesting info (at least for me).

At the risk of starting a discussion on the update thread, could someone quickly summarize what the current schedule is?  I haven't followed SpaceX too closely, but I thought I recalled the next Dragon test flight being scheduled for sometime before STS-135, and now all of a suddent it looks like SpaceX has no Dragon flights at all for 2011.  So, I gather this is related to combining COTS demos and doing a rendezvous on the next flight?

COTS 2/3 Combo is NET November. CRS 1 is NET (late) December.

Cape Canaveral has this launch schedule recorded, not that things couldn't change.

August - Atlas 5 - Juno
September - Delta 2 - GRAIL
September - Falcon 9 - Dragon C2
October - Falcon 9 - Dragon C3
November - Delta 4 - WGS 4
November - Atlas V - Mars Science Laboratory
December - Delta 4-Heavy - NROL-15
December - Falcon 9 - Dragon C4

The SpaceX launches reported on that schedule haven't been updated in a long time. It's about as reliable as SpaceX's own manifest. I'm guessing we'll see a C2/3 in Q1 2012, then CRS1 in Q2.

Personal conversation, sorry. Both have probably changed, this was a couple months ago.
