From the DragonCam it looks like one smooth ride to orbit on that first stage!

Ahh, a playback of the ascent seen in Dragon, played back at 55 mins. That explains why the sky wasn't black in the first of the three posted images.

Last report concerning f 9 stage 1 said they had a radar lock on it but I have heard nothing since regarding stage one recovery.

Looks like a nominal launch with the exception of the stage 2 fuel (or oxidizer) fill and drain hose ignition. They will have to do some work to determine what caused this and how to fix it, but it was not an issue on flight 1. Falcon seems to have preformed without question. Now I congratulate them and wish Spacex good luck on dragon re-entry and landing.

Could shortened Nozzle have anything to do with this?

SpaceX has not indicated they will, but I'm monitoring the webcast link in case.

Oh that one. That is footage after arriving in orbit - But not the ride to orbit. (AFAIK)

It's most definitely the ascent phase. You can even see the vehicle rising through some sporadic clouds and executing the pitch program.

No, I think that is the capsule rotating while on orbit. But I could be wrong. Note the file name: 20101208_F9-002_DragonOnOrbit_SHORT.mov

Couple of questions: Any word on stage one recovery or did stage one disintegrate again?
Last update I saw on stage recovery said they had a signal and a boat (one of the SRB recovery ships presumably) was steaming to its location to see if its there.

One of the facebook posters was speculating the previously mentioned "talon" they had a lock on was a combo flotation/stabilization device and beacon.

Which makes sense in the context used, in addition to a talon being part of the foot of a falcon, in this case supporting the rocket in the water.

SpaceX webcast just says buffering for me. I'm assuming they aren't broadcasting any video from the recovery area.

I expected this portion to be pretty quiet, as I'm sure they're all concentrating on the mission.

at approx 8 mins I heard on the recording, that recovery systems where active, so something must have been good at that time to signal the msg home..

All liquid vehicles tend to be much "smoother" than those with solids (as is shuttle once the SRBs are gone.  You can tell the difference in the cabin videos).  As the atmosphere decreases this is even more true.
