Is that the sun peeking through the clouds? The colors in that webcam view make everything look gloomy, but shadows started appearing on the vehicle.

Can anyone confirm they start the engines in staggered fashion, not all at once?

Simultaneously.

Hmm. I might have misinterpreted what I saw, or a small amount of fuel reaching the chambers may have been the second flash.

If they don't scrub for the day, the new T-0 will be at the end of the window (or near about) as there's things like changing out the engineering camera (film) which takes a while.

Jim: I remember watching that STS-1 launch with my engineering team from a process control product development we'd just completed and we had a laugh when we heard about one CPU locking on the wrong edge. We'd been there and done that!

Interesting note on the Space-X webcast page: 10:30 AM PST "It looks as if we may have experienced a shutdown condition just after ignition. In these situations the vehicle puts itself into “safe mode”. There may be the chance to “recycle” the count and try again."

For me, the most significant parallel to this situation was the failure on the first static fire attempt.  Could there be an issue with the engine monitoring system? Are the abort criteria too tight?

Admittedly, it is difficult to make assessments about the system so soon.  However, 1/3 ignitions being successful to date (and the aborts happening at the last possible moment) might suggest something needs to be looked at more closely.

If they cannot come up with the reason and determine it would allow for a recycle in this time frame then they should call for a scrub today.  They should not attempt another launch if they do not fully understand the cause.  Of course I would certainly hope they are thinking along those lines.  They have nothing to prove that won't be proven if they succeed tomorrow after a thorough analysis and also come up with a fix for whatever happened.  And although I doubt Elon will let it out anytime soon they should explain it to the world what it was in straight forward terms and not obtuse excuses.  I respect what Elon has managed to do but still don't care for his secretiveness and irrelevant analogies.

As I remember they went through a similar process with the Falcon 1's. Gradually loosening the abort criteria with experience.

Pad abort involved an out-of-limit startup parameter.  Looking for a new T-0.  Stand by.
