Hi,
I'm staying in Titusville till the 15th of may and i'm in Orlando till the 17th of May, hopefully she will be launched before the 17th. What are the best spotting places in Titusville? Space view park?
I have had relatives go to a campground called Manatee Hammock, and they have said that it is a good spot to see the launch, and i looked it up a little more and it looks like one of the best spots to see a launch

I heard/read that there are some spots in Titusville were you can see the launchpad. Can you see it there also?

There is a Clarion Hotel not too far north of the causeway that makes for a nice viewing spot. The pad is visible from there as well.

The Super8 is about thirteen minutes from the Clarion and the Clarion is on the waterfront.
That would be a bit of a hike to walk to either Space View Park or the Clarion from I-95 Exit 220.

I don't know where Space View Park is, but the Clarion would most certainly be a drive instead of a hike, as it's almost nine miles from Super8.

You know as much fun as I know I am going to have on this trip, I've also come to the sad realization that as the days count down we are closer and closer to retirement with no plan nor any word of what will become of her after...
Well at least I'll have the whole group of you to cry with... well most of you (I'm assuming there is the one or two odd balls out there...)
Targeting my dates as May 12-19th. (gives me a little give for scrubs *if needed*)
Well I'm an odd-ball type of guy, so I'll likely get emotional too...lol
It's going to be exhilarating, fun and sad all at the same time.

So from Clarion / three Oaks, a car would be of great benefit for frequent KSC visits?

Yes. You're looking at a 10-15 minute drive to KSC from the closest points in Titusville. I'm sure there is always the option of taking a cab, but that can get expensive in a hurry. Sometimes you're better off renting a car. A couple of our guys did that for STS-129 and it helped them out a whole lot as far as convenience goes. Where did you end up getting hotel reservations?

OK, I know people are starting to ask. YES, I will put together a pre-launch dinner gathering for NSF folks (and their family and friends) for the final launch of Atlantis.
However, per my standard practice, I will not begin planning anything until the current mission is complete and Discovery and her seven crew members are safely back on Earth.
So... sit tight for a few more days, guys.

Thanks! A car it is.

Three Oaks.
If Atlantis moves to a later date, I'll try and re-book with Clarion. Wasn't willing to spend the difference, which was substantial. Need to buy beach towels, film (yes film), and visit the dreaded gift shop

Three Oaks is definitely the cheapest considering where it is. You're only about fifteen minutes from the space center. By the way, if you're going to the Visitors' Center more than twice, remember to get the Annual Admission Pass the first time you go. I think I sent you the details.
As for the gift shop, yes it's amazing, but remember to buy only the things you'll actually wear/use once you're home. I know how some things tend to look just plain awesome in the KSC VC context, but once you get them home you think "Why the heck did I buy this...?"

Anyway, hope to see you out there at some point!

Add another four to the list of people travelling from down under for the STS-132 launch. Regarding a ticket release date, I got an email a week ago from a woman from Kennedy Space Center saying she was hearing not before April 21st. So looks like a bit more of a wait to try and nab some causeway tickets.

I would think that would be related to STS-131 landing for the same reason Chris G doesn't want to arrange the NSF lunch.

They changed the text on the NASA website from
"...tickets typically go on sale four to six weeks prior to the scheduled launch date."
to
"...tickets typically go on sale three to six weeks prior to the scheduled launch date."

Yup, got the annual pass, though I bungled the order, so it didn't do myself any favours. Oh well.
If there is any doubt finding me, look for the "Go Direct" t-shirt and a Nikon telephoto lens
Less than a month to go!! JOY!!
