ILS getting their point across that Proton M is tall ;)

Ugly too.  I have to say that Proton screams 'Soviet-era design' from every rivet and seam.

Thanks PahTo. Yeah, I do like Proton, very nice looking vehicle.

Staging.

First stage shutdown
Second stage ignition.
1-2 Sep.

Don't think they'd have the second stage firing before sep!

They do. There's grating between the stages where the exhaust releases until physical sep.

Thanks Chris! I too like Proton!

One question I have is where does the 1st and 2nd seperate? When they bolt the two stages togother both have half the lattice; but that can't be the actual seperation. Surely all of that structure must be left behind on the first stage; and the engines fully exposed?

Not entirely sure. I'll check the LV manual. Maybe Anik or someone would be able to give a fast answer.

Suggests in the middle of the lattice...

I couldnt disagree more; I think it looks like a real rocket. A real, streamlined, bolted, silver rocket. That goes up and does it business without any fuss. Cant argue about preferences though I guess.

Incredibly annoying promo videos BTW

If you prefer authenticity over the choreographed sing sang of professional commentary then www.tv-tsenki.com is your choice. Both webstreams ended before a preliminary orbit was reached though.

Thanks. I can't really complain too much since I am a DISHNETWORK subscriber in Ohio so a succesful launch will lead to better service  8)

Like the 'Soviet-era design' Soyuz? The most prolific launch vehicle ever designed? I don't see ugliness, I see reliability and functionality. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder for some. :)

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) today announced that the EchoStar XV satellite, built for DISH Network LLC, is performing post-launch maneuvers according to plan. The satellite deployed its solar arrays late Saturday night and early Sunday morning following its successful launch on Saturday from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan aboard an ILS Proton Breeze M launch vehicle provided by International Launch Services. Later today, it will fire its main thruster in order to start maneuvering into geosynchronous orbit.
