ILS getting their point across that Proton M is tall
Quote from: Chris Bergin on 07/10/2010 06:50 pmThanks PahTo. Yeah, I do like Proton, very nice looking vehicle.Quote from: Jason Sole on 07/10/2010 06:47 pmQuote from: Chris Bergin on 07/10/2010 06:43 pmStaging.First stage shutdownSecond stage ignition.1-2 Sep.Don't think they'd have the second stage firing before sep! They do. There's grating between the stages where the exhaust releases until physical sep. Thanks Chris! I too like Proton! One question I have is where does the 1st and 2nd seperate? When they bolt the two stages togother both have half the lattice; but that can't be the actual seperation. Surely all of that structure must be left behind on the first stage; and the engines fully exposed?

Incredibly annoying promo videos BTW

I have to say that Proton screams 'Soviet-era design' from every rivet and seam.I couldnt disagree more; I think it looks like a real rocket. A real, streamlined, bolted, silver rocket. That goes up and does it business without any fuss. Cant argue about preferences though I guess.

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) today announced that the EchoStar XV satellite, built for DISH Network LLC, is performing post-launch maneuvers according to plan. The satellite deployed its solar arrays late Saturday night and early Sunday morning following its successful launch on Saturday from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan aboard an ILS Proton Breeze M launch vehicle provided by International Launch Services. Later today, it will fire its main thruster in order to start maneuvering into geosynchronous orbit.
