"We are hoping that the Shuttle RTF-3 program will see the average recent cost of shuttle passenger slots fall from $3 billion a head to $1.5 billion a head. This is an unprecedented 50% reduction in launch costs per passenger, and clearly shows that the space shuttle program costs are on the right trajectory."

Still, those numbers...  Ouch.   :(

A whole launch is a lot less than that!

That's true.  At 3.8B for one disastrous launch in 2003, 3.9B for none in 2004, and 4.5B for one launch in 2005 with 7 astronauts onboard, they're doing much better than 3B a head.   :o

Sorry.   I know the back story all too well, but this is the kind of math that makes Griffin worry Congress will put NASA out of business if they don't get the RTF problems put to bed.

Seriously. Look at the two stories they've done, both made up quotes from Bush it seems. Really does appear to be an April's fool joke. They did the same last year.

Chris? Know if that is the case?

Sure it's an April Fool's joke, but the budget numbers aren't.  The flight rate's not.  That's what make it so painful.  That grain of truth buried in the satire.

But those numbers are part of the satire. I do not understand why this is even being discussed here. It's an April's fool's joke, so what's to get here?

1) It's pretty stupid for a news site to publish such joke articles.

2) It's even more stupid for them go saying figures of $3billion a seat, when that's clearly part of the joke, but some people seem to be taking selective parts as real.

We do not discuss joke stories as it serves no intellegent purpose. Thread locked until Chris decides what to do with it.
