Indeed right now they need to be very humble and quickly get this problem figured out. Hope that payload was covered.

Any ideas on what caused it?

Oh my, she was spinning out of control before the webcast cut out?? Only got a few glimpes.

Well spotted, Flight. I lost the webcast as I was trying to take an image...then saw that comment and thought "f--k" :(

Hope that payload was covered.

That would be quite a trick.

If it was spinning then might it have been the RSO terminating the flight?

According to an e-mail from an Aerospace engineer...just in...it's either than or the spin would have terminated the flight with fireworks :(

Just a small correction.  Gwynne Shotwell's name is spelled with an "e"...I've been misspelling it this entire thread.

With fireworks?  You mean it would have self-disintegrated, right?

Very sad.

Thanks for the superb coverage here, as always. Certainly the best live update site.

It launched and it flew (for a whie). That's progress!

Thanks to Chris and the team for the coverage. Good luck to Elon and his team at SpaceX for the next time.

First thing I think of for spin is thrust vectoring and software. Just a guess without being able to see what happened!

Yeah, same here.  So many new and untried systems, especially the new avionics and engine, if a failure would to happen it would probably be there.

The falocn 1 has thrust termination not vechicle destruction as a safty measure.

One of the last images from the rocket in spaceflightnow.com:

http://spaceflightnow.com/falcon/f1/images/onboard.jpg

Earlier in the SFN mission status center:

"Some rockets turn faster than others, depending upon the trajectory. In this case it is going to go almost straight up until it is out of sight," SpaceX founder Elon Musk said, predicting how the launch will appear.

The last image looks anything but straight up. TVC failure?

SpaceX deffinatly has the determination to bounce back from this. They'll get one up there! :)
