Drat! I was enjoying that!

I think NSF seemed to have a wee hiccup too - the forum wasn't responding for me for a few minutes.

Well, the rocket cam to 1000 ft was cool while it lasted.  Hope this isn't a problem...

It looked like the thermal blankets might not have detached completely.

Saw the same thing. First a flame, then 3 seconds a spinning rocket and then the webcast stopped... that sounds very, VERY bad.

Yeah, the spinning rocket, clouds, and visible ocean were bad signs. Damn, damn, damn.

Gwynn: I have heard word that we did lose the vehicle.  We did have
successful liftoff until a minute or two into the flight.  As soon as
we have information we will post informaiton onto the site.  We did
lose the feed from Kwajalein; that happens pretty often here.  We did
have a successful liftoff, but the vehicle did not succeed after that.
Clearly this is a setback, but we are here for the long haul.

Deffinatly a setback...but these things happen when you're trying something new. Took NASA a couple trys in the beginning.

I have to  believe Elon was not counting on a first time success. Everyone blows one up.

With that statement posted above, SpaceX terminated the press call.

I  don't know what to say to that.  I hope they can recover enough to diagnose the failure.  A very bad day for SpaceX.

I remember Musk saying back in November that he can afford three failures.

This is rocket science after all, stuff like this is bound to happen.

I don't think the thermal blanket was at fault.  One of the last images I got before the feed died showed the rocket high enough as to assume that the blanket seperated already.

Did anyone get a good look how the LOX blanket came off? My feed went all jerky just before liftoff.

The bright side of it is that Elon will have some spectacular footage for us when he does his talk at the NSS  ISDC in LA at the beginning of May! (Btw, y'all come now, y'hear?)
