As an example, the propellant numbers are only for that propellant which is not designated for use by Progress itself for maneuvers in space. So, there is an extra 880 kg or so of additional propellant in its tanks. However, if there is a problem, and the Progress cannot dock with ISS due to some technical problem, virtually all of the cargo propellant could be used for docking maneuvers. This is part of the reason that no Progress has ever failed to deliver its cargo to a space station.
Amazing light display!!!
I've never really imagined anything but the shuttle having such a "beautiful" launch, but I may be reconsidering that tonight. Thanks for the coverage!
Hi All. Not really a space buff, though was totally encapsulated this morning at 6.14am local time here in the Northwest of Kazakhstan. Myself and the rest of the Australian miners working here at a mine site were blown away at today's rocket launch carrying supplies to the I.S.S, which caught us all by surprise. At first we had no idea what it was and I managed to capture it on video. It was quite the sight making its way through the darkness before dawn. Unfortunately my footage is 93meg so unable to post it i think? Take care.
Pure art.NASA should schedule a few launches in this window to pickup this effect No solids please.P
This is what could be seen from Kromtau, Northwest Kazakhstan.

How does Progress and Russian segment data and video get transmitted to TsUP when ISS is out of range of Russian ground stations?
In the footage of the rocket high up in the atmosphere there are four small lights to be seen below the rocket and plume, what are those?
