This is a preview of coming attractions.  ;) Website coming soon!

ETA: It's a 1:96th scale Space Shuttle cardstock model. I have my own set of orbiters (all of the "NAS" markings) in which I purposely put the hatch on the starboard side just for variety, hence the mirrored launch pad. This display models STS-95, my first shuttle launch, and I have packages to model historic Shuttle missions, as well as all of the liveries of the orbiters, darkening of the insulation foam of the tanks and the different changes that the SRBs underwent throughout the years.

There will  be other goodies such as launch preparation equipment, MLPs, and I may do a paper model for both SLC-6 and LC-39.

Ehhh, you do know that you got your FSS and RSS the wrong way? The orbiter side hatch is on the port side of the orbiter, not starboard. This is where you ingress/egress on the orbiter crew module and where the Orbiter Access Arm lines up with the orbiter when it is extended.

I know.  ;) The launch pad itself is for a "personal" collection. That's why I have "NAS" markings on there instead of "NASA." The tank and orbiter are part of the actual NASA collection I'm posting online, but the boosters and all of the pad equipment are for my personal set. My 'NAS' orbiters have the hatch on the starboard side, of course.

I repainted the Ares I kit on Jon Leslie's site, I'll post it as soon as I can work the bugs out of it.
it's paper btw.

Sweet! Sounds good. Did you scale it down a bit from the original plans as well?

It was actually a 1:288 scale kit that I scale up (the on that came with the LUT).

That's one sweet looking build! I never cease to be amazed at the skill and talent of the builders in the card community. Well done!

Almost done with my "new" vintage Estes 1/70 scale Saturn 1-B model
(K-29).  Been working on it since Christmas Break 2008.  Using the
Apogee Apollo Capsule kit for more detail and ease in construction.
Hope to fly this model in a couple of months.

HI,
Does anyone know the colour of the top of the tank that the Airlock fitted onto on Skylab ?
It'd be the one immediately below the LEM on a "normal" Saturn V,
I'm thinking its a reddish colour (if so I've got some red primer that I might use) although for some reason I'm also thinking Silver ??

Today I bought a 10cm polystyrene ball that I'll be cutting in half, and fitting the airlock to,I've also just bought 4 packs of wooden "balls" the right size for the tanks in the 4 Airlock Truss segments,

I'm really getting into scratch building this Skylab model (lol)

Thanks,

JJ..

Finished my vintage Estes (K-29) 1/70 scale Saturn 1-B!  Only major
difference from the kit is I used the Apogee Apollo Capsule Kit, added more detailing to the SIV-B than what came in the kit, added cardstock
H1 engine nozzles for display (but will include a flight version setup using the outer four H1 nozzles), and configured the recovery separation point where the IU/LM adapter meets.  Hope to fly her soon.

I love the Saturn 1-B,some really great detail there,

and Spaceboys S-0 Truss above,
I'd love to build the whole ISS Truss as a replacement for the 1/44 scale Revel one,

J.J.:

I feel exactly the same way, my friend! I've perused photos of some perfect productions, and they're humbling. Take DHanners, for example. This guy is bloody awesome in his mad skills. That guy can do things with paper that mere mortals like the rest of us can only dream of! But I know his secret. And it isn't really a secret, either.

Are you ready?

Build.

A lot.

and then build some more.

That's it.

The more we build, the more techniques we test and try out, the more things we fail at doing, the better modelers we become. I wouldn't dream of taking on a paper ship hull for example, but someday, when my skills get better, after I've built and failed a lot, I'll be good enough to do it.

So keep building, man! You'll wake up one day, and find that you're a steely-eyed paper missile man.

Nice stuff you have there!  I'm curious of some of the models I see in
the background in many of those pics.  One looks like a miniature Saturn -V with the launch tower?!  Keep up the great work!

Get Peter Alway's book.  If you want a static model, realspacemodels.com sells 1/72 and 1/144 versions of the booster.  There are also paper models of the booster out on the web that are very good.

I have a question...

Looks like the Service Module is done in a mirror-finish metallic paper.

What kind of paper is it, and where did you get it?

Beautiful build!

Not sure if you're referring to my Saturn 1-B, but the Service Module
finish is the silver/chrome monokote adhesive I got from BMS (Balsa
Machining Service), a vendor that supplies tons of stuff for model rocketry.  Check it out in your search engine and you'll see what I'm
talking about.  The four black fuel tube tanks were "prepainted" with the
black monokote adhesive (and the white ones were prepainted with white spray paint) prior to assembly to ease the finishing of the model -
the instructions say to hand paint the fuel tubes AFTER the assembly
of the model is completed.  I had already tried the painting the fuel tubes after assembly back in 1970 on my Centuri 1/100 scale Saturn 1-B, and it didn't come out looking too good..... Learned a good lesson.

Atlas V Orion I built for and handed off to Antares today.  I was trying for a Saturn V look for the base,
