talking of 1/72 scale
some time ago i started work on a 1/72 m.e tank,id just bought my 1st wood lathe and fancied doing something unusual with it,
the reason i didn't get too far .. was the size
those 1/72 scale tanks are pretty big ! (lol)
ive still got the top section (now an off cut) down the cellar,
i keep thinking .. next time i get some very light weight wood i might try again,

Where are all those large diameter tubes being sourced from?   I need some for some 1:72 DIRECT /Jupiter models I'm planning, although these aren't for flying.

My last attempt, done in a crazy rush just five days for or AIAA presentation, used my last ABS tube of the correct diameter.   The results aren't great when you look at them in detail, but someone just asked me to show them here anyway:-

I'm also working on a model of J-120, albeit on a much smaller scale.  The donor kit is the Academy Shuttle, 1/288 scale.

If you're thinking about buying this kit, take a pass (unless things like accuracy and detail aren't that important to you.)  The joints on the SRB's are in the wrong place, but I'll probably just leave them as they are.  The ET is too wide for the scale, and the pressurization lines are all wrong.  I cut the forward and aft domes off the ET and I plan on wrapping it around a 1" diameter dowel to get the correct diameter.

Pics to follow after I get the motivation to finish it.  I'm also waiting to see if NASA baselines the "Bullet" shroud over Orion.  I'm trying to determine if I should use a model rocket nose cone for my model, or if I should use the Airfix 1/144 scale Apollo CM (it's really a 1/200 scale Apollo capsule, but it could make a 1/288 scale Orion.)
"Black Zones" never stopped NASA from flying the shuttle.

Hi guys,

Here's a few shots of my current 1:60 LUT build progress. I've installed all the vertical cable trays and have now started the horizontal runs.

I recently completed Accurate Model's 1/20 F-1 Engine for a customer/friend.  It took about six months on and off.

That F-1 model is incredible! What materials did you use?
How big is the display including the base?

Thanks!

It's a kit from Accurate Models. http://www.customreplicas.com/F1.htm

The display base is 14" x 16", and the kit is resin, metal, styrene and acrylic.  It's heavy too.  The diameter of the skirt is about 9".

And how long ago did you acquire the F-1 since Custom Replicas have ceased production of that model (since last year...)????

By the way - that's an outstanding piece of art you put together there...

The customer provided the kit to me in May.  I think he got it on Evilbay.

thanks!

I built this revell ISS and Shuttle model when I was 14.
Half a year ago (when I was 17) I gave them both a second life.
I modified the shuttle so I could dock it to the ISS and hung it on the roof in my room at home.
When I get back home in the weekends I love waking up while seeing that beauty ;)

Very nice to see that you have given OV-102 a chance to visit ISS
Visited Shuttles (so far):
OV-104, OV-105

My friend who's building the 1/48th Atlas 551 scratch-built a large scale Pegasus a few years back. It's a flying model, but he could never bring himself to launch it.

In my own efforts, I've finally started building a Saturn 1B after forty years of wanting to do one. It's the 1/200th version in AMT's "Man in Space" kit. I would've liked to have done an Airfix 1/144, but they never seem to be in my price range.

Oh, yeah...that's my Titan 3E co-starring in picture 3.

Here's a flying version of Estes' Titan 3E; this kit is OOP now, but another vendor called
PDRocketry has a perfect clone.

I have decided to tackle a huge challenge in the next year or two. I'll be making a shuttle orbiter - sans ET and SRB - PC case. It'll be about 4ft tall, 1/30 scale. The wings, vertical tail and belly wont have much function for the PC that I can foresee, unless someone as an idea), but the nose will house some small, basic components. Do you guys have any idea where I could buy a good, rigid - and if possible, cheap - foam (besides signfoam.com) for making the parts?

I think I'll be making the PLB doors out of white plastic sheet.

The PC guts will be in the cargo bay. Accessories, fans, etc will be in nose and tail tructures. It's gonna be vertical, but I might also design it so the orbiter can actually sit on wheels I might add to the assembly.

Thanks :)

THE DREAM IS SLOWLY COMING ALIVE...but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

I took some creative pictures of the 1:96th scale Space Shuttle cardstock model I've been working for the past two years (exactly two years this Thanksgiving Thursday) The incomplete launch complex and the boosters are my own inverted and personal designs.

The model replicates STS-95, my first [televised] shuttle launch. NAS=my fictitious National Aerospace System...please disregard.

These were taken with my phone. Once I get a digital camera, I'll add more to what I already have in my album: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?albumid=63

T-10...9...8...7...we're go for main engine start...4...3...2...1...0 and liftoff of Shuttle Daedalus as the National Aerospace System celebrates its 25th mission.
