Making the kits that no one else will make is how I make my money! Of course you actually have to "build" my kits.

I'm a member of the space modler's forum- but they are not very flying rocket friendly- if you are not there to to talk plastic, or gripe about IPMS or chat about Terry Garr they they are hair triggered to call you as being Off-topic and bam- yer' gone. A few months ago some of us had a good discussion about fins going and Mr. S. called it off topic and shut it off. I figured that was about enough for me. The better place to post is rocketryforum.com. But then again... why leave Nasaspaceflight for even a minute? ... you can miss so much.

You keep making the kits and i'll keep buying them.  ;) It's so hard to actually find semi-scale or scale kits based on actual launch vehicles. These days, 99.90% of the rocket kits out there are either military scale or sport scale. Not that there's really anything wrong with that, per se. but it's not my cup of tea.

I've been to rocketryforum.com many times but I find the lack of interest in the kind of model rocketry that I do to be rather offputting - it's either flashy sporty stuff or high powered stuff and it feels like to me that discussions about space programmes or exactly how something like VSE is going to work is not even worthy of discussion. So I tend to hang more around here than any rocketry site. This is where the hard-core data is.

Incidentially, I have built 3 semi-scale launch pads for my rocketry. If anyone is interested in seeing some photos of them, i'll post them here.

here-here. i have the same username there and i only post for help with my scale space shuttle. most of the stuff on that forum revolves around $5,000,000 rockets and fancy things. there aren't many topics on scale spaceships. btw, let's see those pix!

Thanks. Mind you, these are working launch pads. After a day of launching, I have to do quite a bit of clean up on them. Which makes them kinda like the shuttle launch pads or other launch complexes.

Now those are totally cool. Do you have an R/C for tower movement?

As Dr. Zooch Rockets expands and sales grow we're looking into "funner" stuff and that oncludes pads. One day I'd like to have a remotely powered crawler and pads to go with it. The hard part is to keep it affordable for as many buyers as I can.

Unfortunatly no. I don't know much about R/C stuff and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to afford it.

"Stumpy" flies!

Flew like a dream- and we had high winds today too. I'll get working on the kit right after the Redstone.

The Shuttle- on the other hand, had a bumpy ride. The onboard video shows it bumping through one good sheer during powered flight and several more during the coast. It then got mixed up in the ejection fireball and now has a "toasted" smudge, right where the real one is. Here's a sequence- each frame represents just over 1/29th of a second...

Oh my! That is SWEET! That rocket's gonna look great with my launch pads, yessir!

But are the fins supposed to be THAT huge? And what size motor did you fly her on?

Flew on a C6-7 (I do all of my inital test flights on the most heavy engine any customer would use so as to have the most aft GC and see the minimum stability) In the rest of the test series the fin size will be scaled back to find the minimum and optimum.

It'd be cool to see a model rocket version of the CEV stick. I still have my doubts on that stick design as looking back at finless rockets, such as the Titan that launched Gemini, it had two small nozzles which would steer the rocket. The SRB is just one big nozzle. So then how would a solo booster fly itself?

I sell a The Stick kit- but mine still has the fins from the original design.

1/72 scale? I found an old booster from an old 1/72 scale kit I got years ago, but my nephew destroyed it. So I'm modifyingthe booster to show the CEV "stick". Any ideas on how to build this?

Why not a D12-5? Or one of the engines from Estes's E series?

If you have MSN messenger, i'd like to talk to you about rocketry sometime.

Nope- not on MSN, but you'll find lots of my rockets talked about on rocketryforum.com- seem to be the place for flying models chat. I respect NSF here much more for solid information.

I'm working on my shuttle model's main engines and was wondering what color other people have used to paint them.  I've tried a dark grey and a gun metal grey but they just don't look quite right.

Thanks
Ben

Well they look dark gray and black to me too that's why i tried Testors Dark gray and Model Masters gun metal black and even mixed the two to try and get a realistic color but  the results were not what I wanted.  So I was asking to see what color and brand other people have used to paint them with.
