Explorer from the movie Gravity as I've got the model as of now.   http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/180/2/d/explorer_model_by_quartei-d7oh8a3.jpg

Any suggestions on what to use for the right wing internal trusses and spars?  How big should they be to be to exact scale?

I also just got this kit which I will build as STS-1.  http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/207/8/1/new_shuttle_model_by_quartei-d7sdiga.jpg

So two shuttles to build. :)  Not to mention a nice way to compare Columbia side by side with her first and last flight. I already have the STS-109/107 stack built.

My fleet.  http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/306/d/d/shuttle_kits_by_quartei-d6srztk.jpg  http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/306/0/9/endeavour_model_2_by_quartei-d6srzeg.jpg   http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/299/4/9/shuttle_models_by_quartei-d6rwgf7.jpg  http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/229/d/a/two_discovery_s_by_quartei-d6ikd2l.jpg

Nice Fleet!

You are building Explorer in 1/72 scale, right?  You might find some railroad truss parts or Plastuct girders to use inside the wings.  It is going to be twisted and bent anyway, so it doesn't have to be perfect.  If you have the 4D Vision cutaway shuttle, that should help as a guide for them.

I found my 1/350 scale Titanic  model kit rails that are too thick to be  in scale with the model fits for 1/72 scale. :)

I believe there are diagrams of the wing structures in the CAIB report.

That is beautiful!  I have always loved the Skylab Apollo, with it's white/silver Command Module.

Guys any advice to scratchbuild the radiators for a 1/72 scale shuttle?  I looked on the RealSpace Model's page and it said that their kit is currently out of stock.  I hope it's back soon as I'd like to get one. In the mean time for my Explorer shuttle that is damaged. What would work?

Very nice, and rather unusual.

I wonder if the Skylab SPS throats saw the same 'ballooning' effect as we saw on ASTP? Could that part of the SM be seen during EVAs?

I have just finished building my Realspace Model ATDA Angry Alligator model.  I displayed with a Revell Gemini that was modified with the Realspace upgrade kit.  I still want to scratch-build a AMU for the back of the Gemini.

I've just bought several 3D printed models from Shapeways:

1/144 MEM

1/144 'Destination Moon' Astronauts

1/24 Alexei Leonov

1/24 2001 Lunar Suits (3 poses, with helmets)

1/400 N1

Beautiful detail, incredibly light due to being hollow. And not cheap...

...pictures to follow.

The MEM is amazing, isn't it?  And yes, things aren't cheap.  There is a great Dragon on there too.

About three weeks - the order was largely complete (per the website) after about a week, but the Destination Moon astronauts were still not printed a week later.

Oh, and another thing: the bulk of the models were in the fine white frosted nylon, but not those pesky DM chappies! The final products were all hollow, and the ascent stage of the MEM is a seperate part. All good stuff!

The MEM is great in 1/144, and 1/72 is now on my agenda too!

Or, for *total* geek cred, the Gemini 8 PLSS version of the AMU with no rocketry! I have a couple of 'rescue' Aurora Astronaut and MMU kits which are going to be made into Gemini 8 configuration someday...

I got lucky and found this old kit for rather cheap.  It is the Revell 1/12th scale "Astronaut in Space".  The build was mostly straight forward, but I replaced the cheap little plastic umbilical line with a gold foil wrapped brass tube.  It slides into a plastic tube under his chest pack that is a basic replica of the umbilical connector in the photos.  I added a few other cables seen in the photos of Ed White.  The fun part was painting.  I painted the suit light ivory, and then sprayed with pearlescent white.  I am very happy with the off white metallic look of the suits I see in Gemini photos.

2 questions.

1. Would anyone reccomend the RealSpace Atlas V for a new modeler (have never made a model before).

2. How easy was Spacex's Falcon 9 1.1 and fairing kit to build, that kit and the RealSpace Atlas v kit are 2 I want to build.
Titan IVB was a cool rocket
