Now I have heard from Leon van Munster, LVM Studios, that Detail Kit No. 5  LC39S5 (RSS exterior details) is being released in February 2014, just before the Revell re-issue.

Probably the most recent announced re-issue of Revell's Launch Tower has given him the last kick.

I'm very curious.

The old Vista Models 1/32 LM has been 'resurrected' and is on eBay at present as a built model - the person behind it has also been selling the parts as a kit. And he's going to release a matching 1/32 Surveyor next year...

Has anyone managed to convert the official NASA ISS model to other formats like Blender with textures and armatures/bones (movable elements like the Canada arm) ? It seems to be quite a task and I wonder if anyone has already done this ? Here is the model in my copy of Light Wave ...
I love NSF!

I haven't but I want to eventually convert it to STL format and simplify the model so it can be printed.

Sorry guys, some of you have taken one of the models produced by AMK KITS? What do you think, are well made and cared for, or in need of improvement? Could you give me some information?

Thank!

I've been working lately on an Airfix 1/144 Saturn V/Skylab kit (which I only learned of when an email listed it on sale at an attractive price). Here it is so far, awaiting a place next to my old Saturn V/Apollo in the same scale.

This kit is actually the Apollo version plus extra parts, so you can make a free Apollo TLI configuration too.

I wimped out on some of the circumferential striping; my masking technique has such a poor track record that I'll go with the stripe I can do cleanly enough freehand over a more precise but ragged version.

Looking good!  I know what you mean about masking over those ridges.  I started painting the black first, then masking and painting white.  Of course, it takes a lot more paint to cover the black, but if I have bleed thru, it is easier to touch up the black that the white.  I have also read of modelers using "Bare Metal Foil" in black to make the roll patterns.  I have never tried it, but it might even be easier than painting or decals.

Here is my Revell 1/24th Gemini.  Since I didn't take any photos of construction of the model, I will just post a few photos here. I finished it a few weeks ago. I used the Realspace set for the exterior and the Space Model Systems decals. I used gold Bare Metal Foil on the thermal shield. I used bits of plastic sheet and rod to detail the interior. I painted the capsule Satin Black.

Guys any advice for building a 1/72 model of shuttle Explorer from the movie Gravity?  http://payload205.cargocollective.com/1/2/79464/6404772/explorer-wire_905.jpg   http://payload205.cargocollective.com/1/2/79464/6404772/01_1.jpg

I have an old old model I've don't feel like throwing out and since it has some mistakes on it. I'm going to turn it into the Explorer.

Neat idea; but boy, it hurts to look at those renderings.

I'd use a sharpie to mark out areas to cut and use my Dremel with engraving tip to cut them.  Lots of plastic strip (or brass strip, if you can find it) for the shredded beams.  Make your own decals or get the RealSpace shuttle ones and make just the name yourself.  I'd use surgical tape for the blankets.  If you want to go the accurizing route, RealSpace has better engines, though they tend to have pinholes in the castings.  NewWare has a photoetch set for the cargo bay.  You'll have to build the HST FSS yourself (can't remember if there were any pallets).  Have fun!  -Jeff

Belay that - suffice it to say that it didn't happen, sadly.

This was basically my plan as well.  I already printed decals.  I got a screen cap of the payload bay after the accident and brought up the contrast.  It helps a little bit.  Most of the post-accident shots are pretty dark.

Ronpur,

Yep, they have a full bay.  All that can be scratchbuilt as well.  Everything in the cargo bay of my build was done from plastic card.  (Metal foil hides a multitude of space modeling sins.)

There're a lot of references for the last HST servicing mission (press kit, etc. and there are 3D models in 3ds max format from NASA on their 3D models website).  Let me know by PM if you would like me to scrounge for stuff for you in my computer.

Also, for the 1/72 shuttle, these look to be the best replacement engines out there.  Expensive but nice.

The movie still shows an error. Shariff was on the other ODS beam, yet this scene shows it still in the bay. My model will fix that when I build it.

The only reference I can't find in the movie or concept art is the belly of the orbiter.

Those are great, but I am not sure I would use them for Explorer since you have to tear some holes in them!

Wow, I just watched that and I had noticed there were two in the cargo bay, but did not notice that Shariff was still attached to one!  Good catch.

Yep. An error the  director missed. Shariff was tethered to the aft ODS beam when he died. Yet somehow it later appears as Stone and Kawalski are leaving Explorer for ISS. http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1806.0;attach=589663;image
