I learned a lot about spacecraft as a boy from building model kits of gemini Apollo. Model kits arn't so much the thing thiese days in our "Play Station" world but I was wondseing if anyone knows if any kits or lower cost diecast models of Orion MPCV and Dragon are out there yet? I built my own SLS/Direct model using parts from an old 144 scale shuttle and parts from a Saturn V (before SLS was announced) and I hit it really close. I only know about the higher priced wood models out there now. Thanks

If you feel like taking the information out there and drawing up a CAD image of Dragon / MPCV I will use my 3d printers and send you a plastic model for free for your effort. :)

Just upload them to thingiverse.com

I found a few paper models of the dragon and have been using one as a reference as I modify the forward section of a 1:144 scale SRB... Still a lot of detailing work to do though...

I have a 3D model of Orion already almost finished.

I'd be interested to see your take on the service module (I assume you do include a service module...)

Perhaps a removable one that can be either original or ATV! (For European markets it could have the ATV exclusively.)

Fantastic Plastic had an Orion 606 kit in 1/72nd scale.  I'm not sure if it's still orderable.  I'm waiting until the final crewed design is "fleshed out".  I've got a 1/72nd shuttle to finish, then Apollo, SpaceShip One, and others.
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

Speaking of Saturn V's.....I did some searching and as per the Dragon Models web site the pre-built 1/72 Saturn V would be available around December of this year.   I don't want to get the pre-built one but I'd most certainly be interested in the model kit.  It would make a great display next to my 1/72 shuttle stack.

This is my diorama in 1/96th of Liberty Bell 7's Post-Splashdown troubles. It involves a UH-34 Sea Horse and of course the Mercury capsule. And Gus. In the water. I did some "dramatic" shots as if there was a frogman with a camera in the water shooting pictures of the situation.
Oh yes: it's all paper. Except the sea, of course. That's gypsum, paint and acrylic transparent paste.

I wonder when the Dragon Models model kit of their 1/72 Saturn V will be out? The pre built kit will be out by December, but I'd prefer the model kit for the modeler to build themselves.

Very nice diorama Paper Kosmonaut.

I'm wondering if Dragon has any thoughts about an ISS kit?  I'd jump for that.

Where did you find out about the ISS kit? I can't find anything on Dragon Model's site on the Saturn V or the ISS kits.

I didn't....I was actually asking a question about whether Dragon would do an ISS kit.  I hope they do but I haven't heard that they would.

Say guys could someone  get a 1/72 scale version of these logos of the Soyuz boost cover and rocket itself? http://www.ninfinger.org/models/vault2010/Russian%20and%20other%20Logos/Soyuz%20TMA-6.jpg

Mark,

I think the central core of the Soyuz/R-7 booster is about 3m in diameter ( about 118 inches) which would be 1.63 inches in 1/72nd scale. Save the JPEG from Sven's site and open it with your favorite photo editor program. I like GIMP since it's free.
Print the picture on your printer and measure the diameter of the boost cover at its smallest point, where it attaches to the main tube of the booster. Using your editing software, reduce the image and print again. Measure the diameter once more. Continue with reducing and printing until the printed diameter is 1.63 inches. Now load some decal paper into your printer and print the image once more at best quality. Allow the ink to dry and spray a thin coating of Krylon semigloss clear over the printed image.

You now have decals!
