03-04-2009 landing “union [TMA]-13” with the crew aboard take place on April 8

Soyuz spacecraft landing “union [TMA]-13” is planned on April 8 of this year northeast Zhezkazgan republics Kazakhstan.

The estimated time of the landing of the descent Soyuz spacecraft vehicle “union [TMA]-13” - 11 hours 16 minutes msk.

 Crew lands in the composition: Yuri [Lonchakov] (Russia), Michael [Finke] (USA), Charles [Simoni] (USA).

   On board the International Space Station continues [peresmenka] of crews. Are prepared for the return to the earth Yuri [Lonchakov] and Michael [Fink], which today already 173 days worked out in orbit. Together with them aboard the ship “union [TMA]-13” returns a participant in space flight of Charles [Simoni], who arrived to the station with Gennadiy [Padalkoy] and Michael [Barratt].

   Previously it was planned, that the landing of the descent vehicle must occur on April 7 in the district of the city Of [arkalyka] (North Kazakhstan). However, according to the data Of [rosaeronavigatsii], obtained after the circling of the assumed landing place, locality in the selected region proved to be that heated a little by melt waters that it considerably hampers the work of search and rescue groups. In connection with this was accepted the solution about the shift of the date of landing on April 8.

   According to the precomputations of the service of the ballistic-navigational guarantee of Mission Control Center, the descent Soyuz spacecraft vehicle “union [TMA]-13” now must land 11 hours 16 minutes Moscow time approximately 136 kilometers northeast of Zhezkazgan city.

   Work at the International Space Station continues the crew of the 19th prolonged expedition: Russian cosmonaut Gennadiy [Padalka], the astronaut of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Michael [Barratt] and Japanese astronaut [Koichi] Of [vakata].

NASA UPDATES TV COVERAGE OF NEXT SOYUZ LANDING

HOUSTON -- NASA Television will air the landing of the Expedition 18
crew and a visiting spaceflight participant on Wednesday, April 8.
Russian managers on Friday postponed the Soyuz landing one day and
switched to a more southerly landing site in Kazakhstan because of
soggy conditions at the original site.

Expedition 18 Commander E. Michael Fincke, Flight Engineer and Soyuz
Commander Yury Lonchakov and Spaceflight Participant Charles Simonyi
will return to Earth at 2:15 a.m. CDT, which is 1:15 p.m. local time
in Kazakhstan. The landing will take place near the town of
Dzhezkazgan, which is west of Karaganda and southeast of the usual
landing zone near Arkalyk. Fincke and Lonchakov have been aboard the
orbiting laboratory since October 2008 and will land in the Soyuz
TMA-13 spacecraft that carried them into orbit.

7:30 p.m. -- Coverage of the crew's farewell and hatch closure
10:30 p.m. -- Coverage of the undocking of Soyuz TMA-13 from the
International Space Station

April 8, Wednesday
1 a.m. -- Coverage of the deorbit burn and landing of Soyuz TMA-13
(deorbit burn at 1:24 a.m.; landing at 2:15 a.m.)
12:30 p.m. - Video File feed of landing site activities and the crew's
welcoming ceremony in Kazakhstan
2 p.m. -- Video File feed of the crew's return to Star City, Russia
and a post-landing interview with Expedition 18 Commander Mike
Fincke.
