Baikonur: Canadian Satellite In Preparation For Integration on Proton Rocket 24.11.2008http://www.khrunichev.ru/main.php?id=1&nid=298"Scheduled operations to prepare for 10 December launch of Canada’s Ciel-2, the Thales Alenia Space–built telecommunication satellite, aboard Proton Breeze M rocket go smoothly at Baikonur.
The initial phase of the Ciel-2 launch campaign known as Stand–alone operations (the time when autonomous checking of the spacecraft and pre–launch processing of Proton core rocket and Breeze M upper stage, adapter system and payload fairing is conducted) is nearing successful completion.
The Thales team will complete loading propellants into the tanks inside the spacecraft today. On the same day the spacecraft will undergo final checks before the next processing step (known as Joint Operations) – integration into Space Head Unit (made of the Ciel-2, adapter/separation system, upper stage booster, payload fairing).
The works on SHU will be conducted in Hall 101 of Baikonur processing center (known as “MIK” 92A-50). The Joint Operations – which will be performed by Khrunichev launch team together with Thales Alenia and Ruag Aerospace Sweden (the designer and manufacturer of the separation system) – will commence in a couple of days"

Does anyone know, why some Protons are painted in white (e.g. this one) while others are just plain metal (see the one being prepared for the Glonass launch)?

Paint cost $ and weight, when this is a comercial flight, then customer pay for paint too

Thanks for the video, truly spectacular staging.
On an aside, relating to RoskosmosTV: I've noticed a drop in their video updates during November, does anyone know about the cause? They missed a pair of launches there, but apparently they're picking up pace again. I was wondering if the crisis and cost cuts had something to do for some time
