More info about manual mode switch.
Kurs system had an indication of a faulty thruster while still outside 200 meters away. Kurs program then went into a mode to abort approach and do a move away.
Ground and onboard didn't see a bad thruster in their data or displays, though, so decision was made to switch to manual and continue approach since they had good solid data, tv, comms, and were still at a safe distance. Continuing the approach and vehicle control showed all thrusters were working, but they still were careful to control approach speed and monitored the braking thrusters.
All thrusters and vehicle control showed no problems, but they will investigate the Kurs glitch.

Did I hear him right, that 4 manned Soyuz launches this year will be a record? (mentioned even more than the USSR era?)
There were 5 Soyuzes in 1969, and probably even more in more recent years.

As this is my first Russian space news conference, I am wondering if it is a normal occurence for a Russian Orthodox Church member to be present. It just seems a bit odd it me.
I'm not sure about press conferences but I know a Russian Orthodox priest blesses the crew before each launch (regardless of their personal religious background). It is part of a long tradition and I'm not sure when it started. The Russians seem very eager to keep all launch related traditions (signing the hotel door before launch, urinating on the bus tire on the way to the pad, etc). It would be interesting to have someone make a complete list of Russian launch traditions.

Talking about producing additional Soyuz, but issues with constructing so many a year. Lead time of 2.5-3 years
Possibly a not-so-subtle public hint that they sure would like more money from the Russian gov't so they can increase their production budget?

They can say what they want, but it sure looked to me like he hot-dogged it in. That was a faaast docking.

Didn't seem unusual to me. It might look faster compared to a shuttle orbiter, but that's apples and oranges.

Orbiters dock at ~0.1 ft/s
Soyuz dock at ~0.3 ft/s (0.1 m/s), and much of the final approach is up to ~1.0 ft/s (0.3 m/s)
That's why it looks so much faster watching the approach.
