Shortly before taking manual control, the Soyuz appeared to be rolling. Not super fast, just a smooth and steady rolll. I was not expecting that. I wonder if that was one reason they ordered them to take manual control??
That looked normal - the Soyuz and Progress even under Kurs usually roll into the correct alignment once approach is started and they're still several hundred feet away.

Have to say, pretty unusual to have a Soyuz on the aft docking port. Normally only Progress or ATV dock there.

Talking about the end of commercial flights/ non-professional astronauts due to 6 member. Talking about producing additional Soyuz, but issues with constructing so many a year. Lead time of 2.5-3 years

Wow I forgot about this docking due to discovery!!
have they ever had a TMA docking on the same day as a space shuttle landing? By the way where should I look for the whole crew rotation and plan? I don't really know what is going to happen here as I have been paying attention to STS-119.

Did I hear him right, that 4 manned Soyuz launches this year will be a record? (mentioned even more than the USSR era?)

Yes, for two 6 person crews (Expedition 19,20 (6 person), 21, 22)

More detail on the manual mode switch: a single thruster failed. Sounds like the switch to manual mode was to assure everything else was okay, and so that the computer would not abort the docking.

Indication of thruster failure led automatic program to do a 1 m/s thrust away from the station. Took manual control and determined all thrusters were operating nominally. Given go to proceed with docking. (per press conference)

Russians will not name their spacecraft. I wonder if they refer to them as "she" rather than "it" or "he"??

As this is my first Russian space news conference, I am wondering if it is a normal occurence for a Russian Orthodox Church member to be present. It just seems a bit odd it me.

What exactly did he say? This issue is quite critical.

Poster ShuttleDiscovery has made a nice overview
