The 16 bolts that connect the JLP to Kibo are now driven to the closed position!  GO for SSRMS Brakes to the ON position.

A nice shot of the JLP now berthed to the CBM on Kibo, where hatches will remain closed until Monday, but leak checks will be ongoing.

You can now see that the SSRMS has released the grapple on the JLP, and you can also see Kibo's RMS (about 33 feet long):

Hatches between Kibo and JLP won't be opened until Monday:

Hmm, what is with the delay?  Not that I mind, the JLP is empty now so it should not be a big deal.

Also would like to take the time to say good bye to the Harmony zenith CBM, I am pretty sure that it wont be used again....

Not sure why Monday, but for the meantime...leak checks etc. From the article I'm drafting (note the past tense, as it's for after the move.)

"Before the JLP Vestibule Pressurization and Leak Checks, the PPRV (Positive Pressure Relief Valve) sample cap was removed. Following the completion of all bolts - 60 minutes after A-bolts - the pressurization began. A Fine Leak Check will be setup for overnight and terminated the next day. "

Because, it's empty.
Before, mission duration extention, JLP ingress was 1J stage task.
Other high priority tasks are still remain.

The PAO talked about delaying the entrance into the JLM because of leak checks, both on orbit and from the ground.  Also outfitting the vestibule as was done on the KIBO module.  However, she did not say when that would be.  To accomplish the above would not take over the weekend.  The crew's sleep time does not begin until 9:32 Eastern.  Must be plenty of more "important" work to do before a new ingress on Monday.

well personally I don't know why they even bothered to move the JLP, the zenith CBM on harmony wont be used again, and the racks inside were taken out.  The only reason I can think of is that they wanted all the Kibo components together.

There are other systems on the JLM like GPS antennas

Latest headline from Reuters: "Stranded in space? Japan's space lab too roomy"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080606/sc_nm/space_station_lab_dc_1

Too roomy? Are you kidding me? For Pete's sake, must they turn everything about the space program into a negative?

(Rhetorical question -- I know the answer)

Back into orbital daylight.  Almost as if the Kibo module is still in Discovery's Payload Bay, but it's not.  Nice shot.

I think you are reading too much in that. It's an illustration of how large it is, there's no suggestion that it's an actual problem.

If they end up having a problem in the future with astronauts getting "stuck" in roomy spaces I would imagine they could use a pocket can of compressed air or something like that to propel themselves.

Has there been planning done by the program for this?
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

It is unfortunate that the PAO keeps using the term “permanent home” of the JLM, rather like rubbing salt in an open wound for JAXA.
:(

I'm not aware, how could this wording be considered insensitive?

JLP was originally supposed to transfer racks and equipment from the ground to Kibo ala the MPLM's, but now that the shuttle is ending it will stay as a kind of closet.
