"They should leave it open so it can be their mental healthy/rec room.  Pool table, flatscreen, popcorn maker..."

I think they do leave the doors to the modules open, at least I've never seen them closed once they get opened up.  Is this correct?

And I would hope there'd be such a module (a rec module) on a Mars ship, they'd need it!  I don't know how they'd do a zero-g pool table though...maybe magnetized ice hockey?  They could have a giant 50-60 inch HDTV, DVD player (or Tivo), popcorn, hot dogs, Nintendo Wii, Xbox,or some other game console, a library...would be an awesome place to hang out.
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

I think by open he mean "rack-less"

Does someone of you know what the text on the Japanese flag above the KIBO-Module means...?

Thanks!  :)

Kind regards

Susan

Playing Wii in zero-g would be fun :D

It will be interesting to see how it'll look tomorrow evening when all the racks from the JLP have been transfered.

Yes, that was what I was trying to say.  Rackless...except for the pool rack.

Offline Bubbinski

Ah, gotcha.

Seriously, could the JLP be adapted for "rec room" or "quiet room" use?  I don't know what they're planning to do with it, it does have 8 racks to be installed in the Kibo main module, but if it's not being used for anything else, why not?  I know it's a little bit small but I guess it could be useful as an off duty space for one or two people.

Don't think Destiny looked this empty before rack installation....

Nice to see space in space and reminds me of the images Bigelow sent out of what it will look like inside their modules. Except Bigelow's modules will be nearly twice the diameter....

Text is "kibo", that's mean hope.
This short split curtain flag is Japanese traditional "noren."

First rack (JEM-RMS control rack) should be moved over around an hour from now.

Nope, the space is needed for stowage of all of the ancillary hardware, spares and supplies, which is why it was designed.  It's the "closet" for the Kibo module.

ingress on youtube:

Thank you RS3!  I had to step away from NTV for an hour, and was dreading the wait until John44's upload in the morning.

Great stuff, we'll definitely be seeing this on the news ... Along with the toilet update, it's going to be a great news cycle for the ISS :)

kibo is looking amazing for only being 2/3 built

and how would you control a wii up there, montion would send you all over the place in low g conditions  ;D

"It's the "closet" for the Kibo module. "

Understood.  I suppose the only other possibility for an "ad hoc" rec module would be an empty ATV, HTV, or Progress before they jettison it but they do fill those up with garbage.

Anyway, great coverage everyone.  It's not good being stuck at work with no NASA TV access when all this stuff's going on.
