Noting some debris liberating from the area where no grease was applied.

They've tried 7 different methods of cleaning up the SARJ, didn't realise they were so many...

Anyway, they're running out of wiping clothes, so the DTO is coming to an end for now, without apparent optimal solution!

This SARJ issue is really becoming.. well.. an issue!  :(  Not good for the outlook of that SARJ..

I saw a lot of comments about the depression being bad... Why is it bad?

Current activities: Kibo's being flown to its final position on node 2. SARJ cleaning techniques test underway: No one seem more effective than another...

Indeed... well, maybe the other race ring is really well made and lasts twice its design, and the changeout clears the issue. Positive thinking going wild, I know.

It appears plain scaping with grease is what works best to remove the debris.

If it was a bump, as in a spot of debris, then cleaning it off would be the solution and doable.

A depression, or divot, is bad for the opposite reason as above. Means a number of things, including that something in the SARJ damaged it.

Meanwhile, how amazing is the Kibo move! If anyone you know says this isn't cool, report them to the police ;)

I'm not positive.  But if a foreign object got in there and got ground up, cleaning out the debris might make the situation better.  If a chunk is missing, cleaning out debris won't help much.

Because it means it cannot be removed (as opposed to a compressed debris accumulation) and it's in fact a structural damage in the ring metal itself, which cannot be repaired, at least easily. Furthermore, the constant rolling of the trundles on it may cause further spalling, enlarging the depression and generating more debris that can propagate or get into the bearings. This datum alone (if there were no other reasons, which I doubt) will cause that race ring to be lost, unless they come up with a magical solution that isn't out there right now.

No good at all.

Today's find on the SARJ will likely be the clincher to swap to the other race ring with a new set of TBAs and DLAs over the coming months (and years!).

Does this mean that solar wing will remain in the same position for the life of ISS?

If so, Skylab was still a success without one of its solar wings....

Most likely means a switch to the outboard ring with a loss in redundancy.

Awesome view! Getting close to the alignment position from where final approach will be initiated.

This is orbital construction at its best, just goosebumping  :D
