Irene asking about losing the second gimbal string on the L OMS Engine.

Cain: The engineering team has a lot of work to do to figure out what happened.  There is a primary and secondary string.  The worst case is loss of redundancy, and will not have a hit to the mission.

Per scanner traffic - both nose cones have been spotter by SRB recovery ships.

Thanks for the video, Ford.  I missed that event.  Looked like three pieces to me.  Two tiny and one large.  Question about the Soyuz situation.  No impact to STS-124.

Foam question from FOX.  Decent.  Gerst confirming what I said earlier...late in ascent and lightweight so no problem, but will be checked out.

Chris called it right. Late in the ascent, which is why the debris is not classed as a concern.

By the way, I don't think it's considered stupid to ask a question about the foam debris. Case in point, the guy from Fox who has just asked about it. He directly asked why NASA wasn't bothered about, rather than be all sensationalist about it.

I think that's a responsible piece of questioning, to be honest.

Short video in this post.  Best I could do without ruining quality.

Excellent video.

#1) It's ONE piece of debris, the piece relected on the underside of discovery is the shadow of the real piece which

#2)didn't come anywhere close to touching anything

#3)  Too high up (not enough force) to do any damage either way.

The big networks will milk this all mission...just like they did last year when the "huge hole" at the joint of 2 tiles turned out to be a non-factor after it landed safely.

Once this is figured out, the broken toilet will be back on the front page.

Here's Harwood :) He's spiffy today!  He wants to know about Gerst's confidence in the upgrades after the foam liberation.  Gerst talking about the liberations and how they're no issue, as well as foam facts discussion and where they'll go from here.

Lots of foam questions.  Not too bad though.  Just wanting facts instead of fishing for a bad angle.

Good point in one of the answers: the foam that came off the orbiter didn't break up after impact, but flew on in one piece, so it must have been a very low-energy event.

I slowed down the video of the debris flying under the wing and I clearly see three pieces.  Two tiny pieces to the left and one to the right.

Gerst wanting people to hold thoughts and questions until they get the ET photos and other data back.

You can tell Griff is getting annoyed.  Head in hand and speaking in a low voice ;)

For the love of God...how many times does Gerstenmaier have to answer the same questions regarding foam loss?  I'll bet Gerstenmaier, Leinbach, Cain and Griffin go out for a stiff drink following these press conferences.  Sheez.

Jay Barbree asking about the Shuttle-to-Constellation gap.  Griff basically saying what most know...the longer we fly shuttly, the longer we have to wait for Constellation.

Happens on every mission.  Most reporters want the bad.  It'll happen until the end of the shuttle program.

Griff saying that these questions are speculative and difficult and it's not something they study.  He says they have better things to do.  LOL!
