Dumbass CNN - head story now 'FOAM HITS SHUTTLE.'  They're replaying the moment around T+3 minutes that shows the foam impact over and over again.  Golden footage for American media.

That one looked to me to be way too slow (too late in the ascent) to cause any damage.

Incredible shot from the pad perimeter camera!  Stack flew right in front of the sun.  That'll make for some beautiful stills!

Initial response I've had from those involved is they saw nothing of any concern as far as liberation events.

Couple of things.

1) After around 2.5 minutes, there's not enough air for the liberation to cause damage on the orbiter (if it hits).

2) It takes at least a day before they evaluate all events on ascent.

Point is, until we know of anything (and we will), nothing to really go on about.

I am not too concerned. The debris I saw didn't impact very hard. I am sure it is nothing that will be a problem.

This stuff happens all the time. It is only much more visible now because we are specifically looking for it.

Yeah, it just seemed to brush off the underside of the wing...

Of course, it's all about ratings.  If not foam it would be a bird, alien or maybe hillary somehow bumped into it with her pant-suit.

The pics/video will be analyzed and they'll do the right thing...regardless of how desperate the media is for a meaty story.

You're right.  Happened after 2m15s.  But the media wants people to think it's a big deal so the public will look down on NASA.  Just wait for Marcia 'they're Dunn for' to chime in on it.  Lugh.  But the views from all cameras were spectacular today!  Wonderful job on the part of the operators.

Well, the piece hit, but bounced off.

I'd be more concerned it it hit it and broke up.

I don't think the velocity was too bad, otherwise it would have impacted and not bounced away so quickly.

Debris-event was probably too late to cause damage but for a moment it just looked huge on the screen...

T+3 minutes is outside of the dangerzone.

Yep.  But the media won't say that.  They're too concerned with making a bad name for NASA to let people know everything is fine and that good things are happening.  Can't wait for the post-launch press conference.  I have a feeling Mike's going to tear into some journalists.
