The pre-launch commentary today is excellent.  Much more lively and knowledgable than past launch prep broadcasts.  Good work NASA!

Now if we could just get a little graphic on the video during launch showing speed, altitude, and downrange, kind of like a NASCAR broadcast, we'd be in business!

CNN actually did that during STS-116..I have not monitored them during the last few launches so I do not know if they still use that graphic or not.

Note the yellow markers on the switches to the right. These control the AC power supply to the 6 main engine controllers. These are marked as to avoid accidental switching off of the power supplie to the engine controllers. This would cause immediate shutdown of a given engine.
Allow subject to scream. In space no one will hear.

Work continues to get Mike Fossum situated in his seat on the middeck (he is closest to the hatch, a fact pointed out by PAO).

Greg Chamitoff has opened his FDF (seen on his right leg).

A better shot of said switches:

Yes Allard Beutel, the KSC PAO is doing a great job for his first time doing a STS countdown, he will probably alternate with George Diller for KSC PAO duties for the remainder of the STS program launches.

Richard

what about mark currie sts-120 LCC PAO
