SPACE SYSTEMS/LORAL DELIVERS ECHOSTAR XI SATELLITE TO LAUNCH BASE
http://www.ssloral.com/html/pressreleases/pr20080528.html

"PALO ALTO, Calif. – May 28, 2008 - Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications (NASDAQ: LORL) and the world's leading provider of high-power commercial satellites, today announced that it delivered EchoStar XI to the Sea Launch home port in Long Beach, Calif., on Tuesday, May 27.

"EchoStar XI is a powerful 20-kW satellite, designed to expand capacity for DISH Network," said John Celli, president and chief operating officer of Space Systems/Loral. "This is the fourth satellite that we have shipped for launch in 2008, and we expect to see a number of additional launches before the end of the year."

EchoStar XI is a powerful direct broadcast satellite (DBS), which was built for an affiliate of DISH Network Corporation. Launch is scheduled for later this summer, aboard a Zenit-3SL rocket from the Sea Launch Odyssey platform in the Pacific Ocean. The satellite will be the fifth SS/L built satellite in the DISH fleet.

"There is a good deal of anticipation as we gear up for the EchoStar XI launch," said Rohan Zaveri, Vice President of Space Programs for DISH Network. "Each time Space Systems/Loral delivers a satellite to DISH Network, we are reminded of the success of our ongoing working relationship and the company’s ability to meet our evolving requirements."

EchoStar XI is based on SS/L’s space-proven 1300 platform, which provides the flexibility for a broad range of applications. Following launch and in-orbit testing, the new satellite will support the expansion of DISH Network’s programming and services"

Wonder if this one's headed to a ~110 degree slot, and if so, if they're going to move one of their current birds in that area to a new longitude.

EchoStar-11 has 29 Ku band transponders.

EchoStar-11 will be tested at 138.5° West longitude and then will be positioned at 110° West.

I have no info about the launch mass.

Echostar has an application in with the U.S. Federal Communications Commision to move the Echostar 6 satellite to the 72.7 W slot.  Echostar 6 is currently an on-orbit spare.  This is a Canadian DBS slot licensed to TeleSat.  DirecTV has a lease with TeleSat for use of 16 Transponders (TPs) there that I believe expires at the end of 2008.  Echostar signed a lease agreement with TeleSat to use 16 TPs there.  It was originally for TPs on Nimiq 5 to be launched in the second half of 2009 on a Proton but I believe after the AMC-14 failure, Echostar modified the agreement to have use of the 16 TPs sooner.  The Echostar 11 satellite will replace the Echostar 8 satellite so its is possible that the Echostar 8 satellite will be moved elsewhere as well.  Echostar has license to 29 TPs at 110 W but Echostar 10 uses 10 of these for spotbeams.  The Echostar 11 satellite has the ability to provide triple power (450 Watts) to the remaining 19 TPs so the 20-kW listed in the original posted story is extremely high for a satellite of this nature.

Sea Launch Prepares for the Launch of the EchoStar XI Satellite
http://www.sea-launch.com/news_releases/nr_080709.html

"Long Beach, Calif., July 9, 2008 – The Sea Launch vessels have departed Sea Launch Home Port and are en route to the Equator, in preparation for the launch of the EchoStar XI broadcast satellite for DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) on July 15. Liftoff is planned for 10:21pm Pacific Daylight Time (5:21 GMT, July 16), at the opening of a two-hour launch window.

Upon arrival at the launch site, at 154 degrees West Longitude, the Sea Launch team will initiate a 72-hour countdown, during which the Odyssey Launch Platform will ballast to launch depth and erect a Zenit-3SL rocket on the launch pad. After successfully completing a final series of tests, the team will proceed with fueling operations and launch. Prior to fueling, all personnel on the Launch Platform will transfer to the Sea Launch Commander for the duration of the mission. The team monitors both marine and launch operations remotely, from a position at about four miles uprange of the platform.

The Zenit-3SL vehicle will lift the 5,511 kg (12,150 lb) EchoStar XI spacecraft to geosynchronous transfer orbit, on its way to a final orbital location of 110 degrees West Longitude. Built by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), the powerful 20-kW spacecraft carries a Ku-band payload for direct broadcast television service. EchoStar XI will complement the existing DISH Network fleet and will provide uninterrupted service and additional capacity and capabilities to DISH customers throughout the United States. Designed for a 15-year service life on orbit, EchoStar XI is the 3rd satellite Sea Launch will deliver to orbit for EchoStar and the 8th mission with a spacecraft built by SS/L"

Countdown Underway for the Launch of the EchoStar XI Satellite
http://www.sea-launch.com/news_releases/nr_080714.html

"Long Beach, Calif., July 14, 2008 – The Sea Launch team arrived at the launch site in the Equatorial Pacific over the weekend and initiated a 72-hour countdown, in preparation for the launch of the EchoStar XI satellite on Tuesday, July 15. Liftoff is planned at 10:21pm PDT, July 15 (5:21 GMT, July 16), at the opening of a two-hour launch window.

Upon arrival at the launch site, at 154 degrees West Longitude, the team ballasted the Odyssey Launch Platform to launch depth. A final series of tests on all systems is now underway. Prior to fueling operations, the platform will be evacuated, with all personnel safely positioned on the ship, about four miles from the platform. One hour after liftoff, a Zenit-3SL vehicle will insert the 5,511 kg (12,150 lb) EchoStar XI satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit, on its way to a final orbital location of 110 degrees West Longitude.

Built by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), the powerful 20-kW spacecraft, carries a Ku-band payload that will support DISH Network’s direct broadcast television service for its customers throughout the United States. This spacecraft is designed for a 15-year service life on orbit. This is the 3rd mission Sea Launch is executing for DISH Network and the 8th mission with a spacecraft built by SS/L.

Sea Launch will provide live coverage of the EchoStar XI mission via satellite and on the company website, beginning at 10:10pm PDT on July 15 (5:10 GMT, July 16). Live streaming video will be posted at: http://www.sea-launch.com/current_index_webcast.html . Transponder coordinates for downlinking the satellite feed are provided at: http://www.boeing.com/nosearch/sealaunch/broadcast.html . Dish Network also plans to carry live mission coverage on DISH Channel 101"
