Well, if you go to :http://www.spacex.com/webcast.php

It says the launch is going to be 5:05p (Pacific) today.

I think this is a web page preparing for launch day and does not indicate any particular day? But it appears the launch time may be already set?

That was for the 2007 Flight 2. So disregard that link!

I strongly suspect that webcast.php is a carryover from the previous test flight. It uses the mms: method and comes from Akamai, whereas the testcast.php points to Bitgravity, a different CDN from Akamai.

Notice that there's no date in the header.

Did he mention what the determining factors might be on whether or not they countdown, aside from the weather forecast?

Nope. They are keeping their cards very close to their chests on this one.

If they are working on the day before launch to give a confirmed T-0, then one could assume this launch won't happen Friday....otherwise we'd be under L-20 hours right now (I think).

Wouldn't be shocked if they went for the middle of the window (Sunday).

Heck, more is known in advance about NRO launches than about this one. :) They must be very nervous after two failures and and more than 16 months since the last try.

I'm not sure calling the previous launches 'failures' is a fully accurate description. They were developmental flights of a new vehicle and showed steady progress up the learning curve. The current long delay has more to do with the jump to the regen engine than anything else.

Not this discussion again please, failure or not failure. There is a thread for that.

I agree. Let's discuss this 3rd launch of the Falcon 1.

Well I think we can all safely assume we're NET Saturday with this right now....seen as nothing's been pre-empted for an attempt at the top of the window.

There isn't an official Space X Twitter feed to link -- Try going to search.twitter.com and searching for SpaceX or Falcon 1.

heres the link:

Not sure where the info came from, but it matches the 23:00 UTC launch window opening of the original 8/1 date still posted on MSDB.  http://msdb.honeywell-tsi.com/launches.asp

A reliable source?

The MSDB launch window wouldn't open until 7 PM Eastern Time (23:00 UTC, which would be 7 PM Eastern DAYLIGHT Time).  I would note that the MSDB launch time has remained stubbornly unchanged, set for this evening, through the past several days.

Many rumors, for some reason.  One possibility, if the launch is planned for Saturday evening, there may be an announcement Friday evening, about 24 hours ahead.

We'll know soon enough.

I don't think we can put any faith in a "Twitter" page unless we know who that person is and his access to the information. It seems we'll get good updates on that guy's wedding, but that doesn't help us with the confirmed launch date, which can only come from SpaceX.

Its also possible some people are looking at the webcast link from last year and getting confused, which says launch is at "5:05pm PST Today" with no date attached to it.

I really don't think we'd be two hours from launch with no announcement, especially after Elon said they'd give a day's notice.
