Sea Launch - EchoStar X
« on: 01/21/2006 11:41 am »
EchoStar X satellite will be launched at the period from February 4 to February 10...

Current Mission: EchoStar X
http://www.sea-launch.com/current_launch.htm

"The 4333 kg (9,532 lb) EchoStar X spacecraft, built by Lockheed Martin, is a high-power KU Band A2100-AX satellite with a service life of 15 years on orbit. Optimized for direct broadcast applications, EchoStar X is a new-generation satellite that will enable DISH Network to deliver expanded services for distribution of direct-to-home broadcast services to its U.S. customers."

"From its equatorial launch site at 154 degrees West Longitude, a Zenit-3SL launch vehicle will lift the EchoStar X spacecraft to a high perigee geosynchronous transfer orbit for its ultimate orbital location at 110 degrees West Longitude."

"Lifting off from the Odyssey Launch Platform, the Zenit-3SL rocket will begin its ascent phase of flight. The first stage of the vehicle will separate two-and-a-half minutes after liftoff, and then the protective payload fairing will be jettisoned a minute later. Following a six-minute burn, the second stage will separate from the Block DM upper stage. The Block DM will then execute a five-minute burn and then shutdown for a 33-minute coast period. The Block DM will ignite a second time for a five-and-a-half minute burn. After another coast lasting nearly 10 minutes, the Block DM will separate from the spacecraft, above the East Coast of Africa."

The next attempt of EchoStar X satellite's launch possibly will be at 23:35 UTC on February 12... :)

Launch is postponed because there was a malfunction in the starting equipment - eight minutes prior to launch the transporter/erector arm was not automatically returned to the hangar... :(

Sea Launch Restarts Countdown for EchoStar X Launch

LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- After a halt in the countdown for launch on February 8, Sea Launch is now preparing for a second launch attempt on Sunday, February 12, with liftoff planned for 3:35pm PST (23:35 GMT).

The Zenit-3SL rocket is now being erected on the launch pad, and preparations are underway at the launch site. On launch day, the rocket will lift the 4,333 kg (9,553 lb.) EchoStar X satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO), on the way to its final orbital position of 110 degrees West Longitude.

"We understand the ground support system issue we observed during countdown last Wednesday and we are confident that our corrective action will support a successful liftoff on Sunday," said Jim Maser, president and general manager of Sea Launch.

This is Sea Launch's second mission for EchoStar and its first mission with a Lockheed Martin spacecraft. Built by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, the high-power Ku Band A2100-AX spacecraft is designed with a minimum service life of 15 years on orbit. Optimized with additional bandwidth for direct broadcast applications, EchoStar X is a new-generation satellite that will enable DISH Network to deliver expanded television services and channel offerings to its customers throughout the United States.

Sea Launch will carry a live satellite feed and streaming video of the entire mission, beginning at 3:15 pm PT (23:15 GMT) on Feb. 12. Transponder coordinates for downlinking this feed are posted at: www.boeing.com/nosearch/sealaunch/broadcast.html. A simultaneous webcast may be accessed at: www.sea-launch.com/current_index_webcast.html

Sea Launch Company, LLC, headquartered in Long Beach, Calif., is the world's most reliable commercial launch services provider. With the advantage of a launch site on the Equator, the robust Zenit-3SL rocket can lift a heavier spacecraft mass or provide longer life on orbit, yielding best value plus schedule assurance. Sea Launch offers the most direct and cost-effective route to geostationary orbit. For additional information, please visit the Sea Launch website at: www.sea-launch.com

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2006
http://www.spaceflightnow.com/sealaunch/echostar10/status.html

"Another technical problem has forced Sea Launch to cancel Sunday's planned liftoff of the Zenit 3SL rocket with the EchoStar 10 direct-to-home TV satellite.

Details about the delay, including the exact reason and options for rescheduling the mission, have not been disclosed tonight.

The rocket has been rotated horizontally for a second time. The initial countdown was stopped a few minutes before liftoff Wednesday by some sort of ground system anomaly."
