This'll be the last time we see Discovery until May 30th!  Have fun in hibernation!

RSS now in the MATE position.  Upcoming activities include opening the Payload Bay Doors (sometime today), and installment of the Payload (I believe I heard that was Monday).

A member asked for this by PM, so might as well add it to the thread for anyone esle that fancies a nice screensaver...

Photo by Jody Minor of MSFC from a previous rollout (click for the large version):

Thanks for that Chris, was looking for that photo angle. Since I joined L2, I have nothing but gold stars for the content and contributors. Great work.

What I would do to look down from inside the VAB to see an orbiter stack.

Seen as you're L2, have you watched the "ll Access VAB, Pad and OPF-3 Video Tour - 1,900mb (Best Video Ever)" on L2 video yet? They go up to the top of the VAB in the elevator and then walk across where the crane operator is to look down on a stack. Favourite video of all time.

Is it just me or have the hatch markings been repainted this cycle?

It did go pretty quick!  If they started around midnight, that means it only took them about four and a half hours to reach the pad surface.  Great job guys!

For the record: Discovery began rolling at 11:47 p.m. Friday night and was hard down at the pad at 6:06 a.m. on Saturday.  That translates to 6hrs 19minutes for rollout which is about right for a trip to LC-39A. As for the time that she arrived at the pad, we'll have to wait and see. The NASA webiste isn't giving that time.

EDIT: According to Chris' article she arrived at 4:25am. That gives 4hrs 38mins from VAB to pad.

Sorry... I'm having an off day. Completely forgot about the article on the front page of this site :o . I was just going by the NASA website.

It gives:

"Discovery arrived at the pad at 4:25 a.m. EDT Saturday."

FWIW (mostly trivia), the crawler didn't show up in the screen-grabs from the OTV 070/071 cameras until around 5 am Eastern, and at that point it was finishing the run up the incline.  Eyeballing the screen-grabs, it looks like the crawler reached the pedestals (end of the roll) around 5:35 am.

Ok. That would make a little more sense in my mind. 4:25am just seems too early to have made it all the way to the pedestals given an 11:47pm start to rollout. Oh well... not that it matters. She's safely at the pad.  :)

Or not. The slower the better. Maybe they didn't have to stop to grease at any point. Then it would be slow, but fast too :)

The CT was headed up the hill around 4:30AM so being over the mounts at 5:30 should be correct. Takes 45 minutes or so to make it up the hill and over the mounts.
