NASA.gov isn't competition.

Back on topic. There was an incident noted - which started back in the OPF and during the VAB lift to veritical, in Discovery's aft. Nothing that will delay launch we think, and I'll be writing it up.

Relates to an Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA) unit that was left in an avionics bay, when it shouldn't of been, and obviously relocated during the lift. Slight damage caused, but could have been a whole lot worse.

Just curious-what would it take to go in and remove this " ELSA "?

The Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA) investigation team are still ongoing, and will present to a PRCB meeting next Tuesday. This is most likely part of making sure it doesn't happen again as we're not told there's a constraint to launch on this issue.

We'll keep an eye on it though, obviously.

Is there any risk to vehicle or crew if the ELSA was not discovered?

Potentially Loss Of Vehicle, yes.

What kind of bad things could potentially happen?

Well you can imagine a five pound canister bashing around the avionics and MPS during ascent could cause a leak or engine out early in the launch, both really bad things.

Dangerous to speculate, but needless to say it needed to come out...and the failsafe was aft closeouts at the pad when they found it.

I reminder this is about processing, not the dress code in OPFs. Had to be deleted back as not on topic, and due to the resulting backlash at the poster's suggestion.

Good to know that we'll be break out of this dry pattern. Central Florida can REALLY, REALLY use the. (Let's just hope the rain showers are far enough away from KSC next Saturday afternoon.)  ;)

Just because it may come up soon, NASA has stated on the GLAST satellite's homepage that the launch of this satellite (currently targeted for June 3 from Cape Canaveral) will move to make way for Discovery in the event of a launch slip for the shuttle.

The press release has been posted in the GLAST mission forum but I thought it was worth restating here.

Very good flow so far. Two small IFAs over the weekend. Nothing to worry about.

Looks very smooth heading into S0007 tomorrow  ;D
