The Japanese political situation is very, very real.

What are you basing this on? The same rumor reports that Norm thinks he's also seen but can't find? They may have made a link on this forum, from another site, but I know this site hasn't reported such pressures, and I've dealt with the Japanese, from which all I can say from my chair is the rumors of their pressure is nothing short of BS.

If there was, I'd darn well know about it.

Good. As I said all I had was rumor. If they are baseless that is great! I would point out that erioladastra made his post prior to my posts.

This is all off topic in any case. If it has legs it should be in a seperate thread.

To lighten up the mood - long range trend is for notably drier than normal for Florida for the end of the month, maybe a bit on the cooler side too. Not that late May cool for them is the same as what the rest of us consider as cool temps :)

STS-124 Processing update.

Managers meeting over Soyuz fallout and may either delay STS-124, carry out a 6up/7down or 7up/8down and remove the US presence from the ISS for the interim, or go ahead as planned.

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5425

So they will make a decision on Monday?

Press Kit for STS-124 is online!

http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/228145main_sts124_presskit.pdf

I've been having a quick look at it and has a nice summary of the planned operations with the SARJ, and a great photo showing some damage. It also offers another good summary of the modifications to this and further ETs downstream. And of course, everything you wanted to know (until you reached this site ;) ) about Kibo!

Press Kit for STS-124 is online!

I've just finished reading all of it and wow! This is the first press kit in ages where the text hasn't been copied and pasted from the previous mission! It was very well written indeed, plenty of interesting info.  :)

NASA expect the results of the Soyuz TMA-11 investigation a few days prior to May 31, so this may be "going away" as a problem for STS-124.

FRR's closing up on the final slides (doesn't mean it'll be an on time presser, but everyone's saying no showstoppers and going well) so.....

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5426

Will be several articles on the new glove mod, waiver on the booster parachutes, BSM evaluation etc.etc. as per the super FRR presentations in L2 over the coming dates.

Gerst confirms May 31. Lots of mentions about ET-128 and it's role as showing the final mods ahead of STS-125.

Enough time in the flow to allow for the four days off over Mermorial Day weekend.

Gerst appears happy with Soyuz investigation. A lot of work to do ahead of the nominal return use with Soyuz later this year. Went to Russia to see the investigation taking place.

He also said that the Soyuz on-orbit is clear for emergency use (which may not be news).

Gerstenmaier also noted that he doesn't expect a lot of additional information on the Soyuz investigation between now and the launch date.

Gerst with a good closing statement: "This is not an easy flight and we need to make sure we don't take our eye off the ball on installing Kibo. Soyuz will take care of itself. We've got to stay focused on where we are."

(Bit of frustration on five Soyuz questions from Marcia Dunn it seemed)

I didn't have a chance to watch briefing yet - but how does the above match up with:
