CAM - location ?

Hello,

I know CAM is no longer in the ISS structure, but what's the status of this module. Was it at least constructed partially? Where is it now? Was it dismantled?

This has been asked a couple of times in other ISS threads, but I believe it is now outdoors as a museum exhibition in a parking lot in Japan.

Does anyone know where exactly?? I'm going to Japan in August so I'll get some photos for everyone here at NSF to see - if it's anywhere near places I'm seeing...

You are right. I can see it in a parking lots in the Tsukuba Space Center.

indeed, but, given that its sitting OUTDOORS, could it possibly be in any condition to be used? I've seen that room where they keep the modules at kennedy, slighly higher standards then letting them sit outside, getting rained on, kicked by children, shit on by animals.  hell, in a parking lot it could get into a fender bender.

No. Entrance is covered with shield.
And you can only see the graphic poster inside. See the first picture.

yes... it's just a tin can. See? Americans had their tin can pictures, then the Russians with their tin can, then the Europeans with theirs. Now Japan has it's tin can... except it's just that, a can. And no, you can't look inside. It always made me laugh when NASA came out with press releases for modules. There'd be all these dignitaries sitting around looking at what looked like a huge tin can. They'd never show pictures of them walking through the modules, just them sitting in front of it clapping.

Probably the inside isn't very interesting as this is just the pressure shell... so rather than seeing a surface similar to the outside, they decided placing a recreating picture blocking the view. It would be nice for us freaks to have a look inside and check how much room there is, but for general visitors it'd be both more exciting and more insightful to be shown what it would have looked like if it had been completed.

Now, in orbit it would have made a better picture without doubt

Personally I would rather see AMS go up.  There's a dearth of astronomical science on ISS.

Mystery? I've been telling people this for a while... it was only certain persons claiming the module was in "flyable" storage that kept the "mystery" going.

Yes, I know, I wasn't referring to the mystery being if it was in a parking lot, but instead of actually seeing the item sitting there, and the condition it was in. There had been photo requests going on for a long time now. Maybe I didn't word it right
