Leland Melvin and Hans Schlegel interviews - ask a question

Hi!
I'm interviewing Leland and Hans tomorrow, again for the Norwegian spaceflight magazine. Like with the Pam Melroy interview, I'd like to give the members of this site the opportunity to ask a few questions. It's up to you if you wish to post in this thread or send me a PM.
Keep in mind though, I can't guarantee an answer to each question. The interviews aren't that long and from experience, the astronauts usually takes time with each question. I think that's great as the answers are always so wonderful. That also means that there is a limited amount of questions that can be asked.
Have a nice day!

Hi kimmern123,
thanks for the opportunity. I take it from the ESA web-site that they plan to start a selection of European Astronauts after the docking of Columbus and after launch of ATV, which is basically today. Could you ask Hans what he knows about the status of the selection?

What about asking Hans how he feels with ESA now a part of the ISS and what they will contribute?

Ask Hans how he feels flying again after so long and what felt different this time in terms of being on the shuttle?

Ask Leland,
How does it feel, from being a basketball player, to being a NASA astronaut?

Ask Leland,
How does it feel, from being a basketball player, to being a NASA astronaut?
Um, I think it was an American rules football player...

Then you read wrong because his bio says he played in the NFL, which of course means football. The bio also says he participated in a few football camps, but it doesn't say anything about basketball.

For hans What did it feel like flying in space now than when you did back in 1993

Okay, that's it, the interviews are done! It was quite an experience. I had miscalculated the time, since we haven't started daylight saving here in Norway yet so I suddenly got a call from Hans Schlegel wondering if I were to speak with him at that time. Both he and Leland were terrific!! They were both very, very nice and took time with each question. The people at NASA, both astronauts and non-astronauts never stops amazing me.

I'll see when I can post the answers here.

I talked to Leland the other day. He said that the thing he wasn't expecting about being in space was being hungry all the time.
(that's all I know about the flight - mostly we talk about our dogs.)

I'll post some answers in just a second.
That's funny (about the dogs), that was exactly what Leland and I ended up talking about at the end too

Jacqmans had a great question about the crew patch that I asked Leland:
"We all kind of agreed we wanted something very simple and also tie it somehow to the future of exploration. So we came up with the sailing ship going from east to west and then we continuing the journey with exploration flying from west to east, to the International Space Station. So it was sort of closing the circle on travel and, you know, now bringing a new laboratory module that's going to bring new research that's going to benefit all of human kind"
