NASA plans for two commerical pads at KSC
« on: 02/26/2008 04:55 pm »
NASA is planning for two commercial pads on KSC regulated by FAA not NASA safety rules. The project is in the Environmental Assessment Phase.

The placement of these pads will close the North end of Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge to the public and caused a grass roots uprising against the plan.

The pads are estimated to cost $500 million each. Much of this is prompted by the Air Force's three to four year streamline process to use abandoned sites on Cape Canaveral AFS and being under the Air Force’s rules.

The two sites have endangered species impacts and have the stated opposition of The Audubon Society Florida and the National level.
