Thanks Trekkie
If the launch will be at 1.30 am, what time is the best to take possition without standing on row 25?;-) I suppose a nightlaunch will be even crowded as in daylight?
Is the coastline near Titusville a possible viewoption? (looks so far away from the launchpad;-)
If you can't get causeway tickets, it's your best option. The couple extra miles you are from the visitors' center is easily made up by the unobstructed view of the pad (versus the visitors' center which has no view of the pad).

Andrewwski nailed it. The Titusville coastline is best. Just look at the picture a few posts back.
Also, I'm thinking about offering the same offer I did for STS-124 in that I'll designate a meeting place and then we can all watch the launch together and members of the this forum. I've got to wait until next week when I get my class schedules for this semester to be sure. I'll post back next week if I can. I hope I get a better turn out on that offer than I did with STS-124.

As long as the 126 date stays somewhere between the 7th and 18th of Nov, I am game to meet up for that flight

I am hoping for a causeway pass from my senator's office. If that does not work out I think I will make the trip anyway. I figure seeing a night launch from Titusville must be great, even if it is farther away than the last several launches I got to see. The biggest disappointment might be with not hearing that roar until fairly late. My only other launch from US1 was STS-28 way back in 1989. It was a good view but the sound did not reach us until nearly T+90 seconds.

True... but there's something amazing about watching a vehicle that you know is generating so much sound and vibration glide and soar soundlessly into the sky.

I always wondered, if a shuttle is launched during a time period that a KSC worker is not on shift, is that person permitted to return and view it from the KSC restricted area?
Is there a certain location that they're allowed to watch from?
Thanks.

Do they actually "sell" the LTT causeway tickets? Are these the same thing as the "senator office tickets"? And if they do sell them. When and were do they go on sale? Thanks all , this place is great..
Got my vacation already planned just for this trip...Gonna stay at Cocoa Beach somewhere for a few days, Cannot wait.
Was there last year for the Endeavour launch but it got cancelled

Nit: Atlantis' STS-122 mission in December was the only flight last year that did not launch on it's first attempt. Endeavour's was in August and went off just fine on the first attempt.

I have found that the LTT w/Lunch are a little easier to get than just the LTT. LTT sell out within a minute where the LTT w/Lunch tend to take 2 or 3 minutes to sell out. Just my experience. Lunch is alright (food is ok), an astronaut is selected to talk to the group about the launch and usually about the mission(s) they have been on. There a few minutes at the end for questions that they tend to have the kids in the audience ask the astronaut. You can also have your picture taken with the astronaut if you like (bring your own camera).
If staying in Cocoa Beach I recommend Days Inn. It's reasonably priced and only a block from Cocoa Beach Pier (if you're trip gives you time to visit the beach).

Hi all,
Ok has anyone ever used "central florida tours" for thier "shuttle launch" experience? How was this in your opinon? Can anyone either recommend or not recommend seeing a launch from the causeway with this tour agency?
Thank you very much in advance.

STS-28 from Titusville was great but there was one other drawback. It was a very hazy August morning so the ground fog was rather thick. The vehicle and the launch pad were not visible to the naked eye. So it took 30 seconds or more before we could see Columbia soaring skyward. People had radios so I heard launch control say "liftoff" but for a while I almost had my doubts. Then people started yelling "there it is!" So that was a bit of a letdown also but I could hardly complain. I had waited 5 years to see a second launch so I was thrilled anyway.
You are right about the sound. You know it is producing that tremendous thrust but it is remarkable that the vehicle is silent to a point. Eventually it does reach your ears though.
It was nice staying at what used to be the Holiday Inn on US 1 so I could stay in air conditioned comfort in my room until T-9 minutes, then just go outside.

I was wondering if anyone from Australia is planning to go to the launch?
I'll be leaving from Sydney.

Is the beach along Cape Canaveral a decent place to view a launch?

How are you going to get there? As far as I know you can't be on the beaches along KSC or CCAFS. You have to be quite a ways north.

fairly certain they have it closed up to a certain point, would have seen videos from there by now if it was open.
There was a youtube from a few missions ago on the beach, but it was 12 miles north of the pads
welcome to the forums

Just got my tickets....!!!!!

Got the Lunch with Astronaut @ 6:30PM and LTT.
So does anyone know what this means? Will I still get a good chance once i get to the causeway to get a really nice location, or is it all good?
Do i still have to show up on my own to the KSC? or do they pick us up? Thanks all
