I need some help converting times for my tickets! I have LTT's and Dine with a Astronaut tickets + vehicle placard for the STS-125 launch. I have downloaded the latest info sheet from:
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/kennedyspacecenter/LTT.pdfMy original times were:
Placard - arrive on or before 5:00pm
Dine w/Asrto - 18:15
STS-125 Admission - 9:00am
(These times were for the 8 October 2008 01:34 launch date/time)
These times don't seem to match anything on the LTT.pdf for converting times for the new launch date/time.
I've tried emailing
[email protected] but no one has bothered to reply. I surmise it's going to be an early start, but I'd like to have NLT times to plan ahead.
Thanks,
mg

I don't know if this has been said anywhere yet, but I thought I'd let everyone know that there is going to be a one-hour special on STS-125 on the Science Channel at 1:00 PM May 11th, and it concludes with the launch live. I thought that was pretty cool. I haven't seen too many full specials on a single current mission before. I will be down there at the Cape for this launch (woohoo!!!!) so I'm definitely setting my DVR for the special on the Science Channel. That will be a nice little treat for my return home after a long drive!

Hi all!
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a question for those of you who've been through the entire LTT process ...
As we all know, the causeway is on a diagonal to the launchpad - the westerly end is about 1 mile or so closer to 39A than the easterly end.
Which end of the causeway do they start busing to first? I want to be as close as possible - so should I grab the first bus, or the last?
Thanks!

Last time I had LTT tickets the West end was occupied by cars and busses with special passes. Then the LTT busses started in about the middle and later busses to the east.

Are there any problems with a tripod on the causeway. I read that they are permitted but, is there room to set up a small one? I bought a new camcorder for this launch and I'll have had way to much coffee by that time to use the zoom effectively without a tripod I'm sure!

Hi Everyone - there has been GREAT information on this forum, thank you!
I'm driving from Nashville for my "Bucket List Trip" to see a shuttle launch, and I'm THRILLED. I'm arriving Saturday and staying through until the following weekend, hoping I'll be there for the launch and the weather will cooperate.
A few questions - I knew some people were talking about going somewhere on Monday night for night photography - what was the final verdict on the best place to go for that? Space View Park?
I have a ticket for the GrayLine trip to the Causeway. Are you given time to be at the Center before the Causeway, or is the whole day spent at the Causeway?
If we have time at the Center first, and are bringing an umbrella chair, etc, are there any lockers available to store things for a few hours? I'm traveling solo, so I'm a bit concerned about being bogged down since I can't leave anything on the bus.
On that note - are backpacks allowed? I may just ditch the chair and take a blanket that I can fold up into a backpack.
Thanks for all your help, look forward to hearing from you!

Yes, people do set up tripods for their cameras on the causeway but you're going to want to find a spot up front along the ropeline so people don't stand in front of you. So get there early if you can.

Space View Park is probably the best place for night photos of the pad. I say pad because you will basically only see the top of the ET and SRBs and not the orbiter. The orbiter will be behind the RSS which will be in the park position by Sunday night. Bring a tripod and zoom lens for best photos
Not sure how GrayLine works but I think everyone has to go through the security check at KSCVC before going out to the causeway. There are some lockers at the center but I don't remember if they are large enough for umbrella chairs.
KSCVC says backpacks are not allowed, however, I have seen people at other launches with backpacks. Can't help much more than that.

Here's a link to the KSC Security Information site.
http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/security-information.aspxI didn't see specific references to backpacks on their list of items that aren't permitted. Just says no luggage or large bags. I'm assuming smaller backpacks, such as the daypack type that kids use to carry their schoolbooks, are allowed.
If anybody knows otherwise, please post a response so we can all be prepared.

Darmok is correct. When I went last year to STS-124 it said no Backpacks, Luggage, or Large Bags. It now just says no luggage or large bags.

I remember seeing backpacks and bags of all sizes at the Visitors Center during the 119 attempts. But, I never made it to the causeway, scrubbed out of my vacation time. I am also on the Grey Line Tour again as I was for 119, their website says no backpacks but, the tour guide didn't question those on the last trip that brought backpacks.
I am planning on a trip to Space View Park on Sunday night for some photos with the pad lighting, if anyone else is planning on doing the same let me know. I know there was some talk earlier in the thread. Otherwise, see you all on the Causeway!

Leo and I are on the same schedule: Space View Park for evening pad photos. We figure on trying to get over there around 45 minutes or so before sundown.

IIRC correctly, it varies from mission to mission. Sometimes they have the xenon lights on at RSS rollback (though for STS-125 that's around 5pm). Other times they don't turn them on until well after RSS rollback. All depends (though I defer to someone who might have a preliminary schedule).

S0007 mini shows RSS rollback Sunday at 5pm, xenons on at 8pm
However, I agree with Chris.... xenons are not required any they seem to "get around to it" eventually ;-)
