Thank you for bringing me hope, Chris
It's exactly as I thought, chances for October 5 launch are very small. My situation would be catastrophic, because I will arrive in Orlando around 6 p.m. on October 6.
As Philip mentioned....we really can't say one way or the other with the flow still pre-S0003. Lots of factors in play here, but they would really like to gain anything - even a day - for Endeavour's 126, with the window closing for the year in the latter part of November.
Milestones on the launch dates are the Aug 14 PRCB and the Agency FRR (September 22) - did a bit on the FRR dates in the latest article:
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5480 - but we'll follow the flows carefully.

Flying over from UK (again) for STS-125. Anyone know if the observation gantry is open during and beyond RSS retract or does the loading of the cryo's mean that they close up?? (especially with it begin Atlantis with her extended life tanks)
My dad and I went to see STS-124 launch (drove from Tennessee). We did not get VIP tickets so we viewed from Titusville at Space View Park, which was a very good place to watch from with live audio from the NASA TV feed and very nice people and restrooms. If you plan to watch from there and want seats right on the water get there VERY early. We got there around 6-7 hours before the launch. We did get to tour KSC the day before and took the up-close tour. We took the tour around midday the day before the launch and ours was the last tour for the day. That was well before the RSS move to park position which we watched in our hotel room on NASA TV. Then we drove to Titusville to see the xenon lights on the pad light up. Main point: the tours end well before RSS retract... atleast about 6+ hours or more before. Sorry to ramble, but maybe some of this info will help on your trip.

Now very much back on for a move of the launch date to October 5 as MAF manage a miracle and move the completition date of the LON tank (ET-129) from August 12 to yesterday - with it shipping today.
That is bang on the timeline for the October 5 move. Payload and crew loading the other factors, but this is big news ahead of the August 14 PRCB. Article

Have just found out that I may have a shot at getting over from the UK for STS 125 (dovetailing nicely into the Atlas launch). Have NASA sold their LTT tickets yet? Looked at Dolphin tours and couldn't workout if they had any or not.
Cheers Mark

Aren't the LTT tickets the ones they sell out in a matter of hours? STS-125 is going to have 100,000s going, but you might get lucky if they change the launch date.

They sell out in a matter of minutes, possibly seconds...

STS-125's a Night Launch, so that will be interesting.

Acutally, if both of the remaining missions this year meet their targeted launch dates they'll both be night launches.

For those that miss out on LTT tickets for STS-125, you should try Titusville...anywhere along US 1 from just south of SR-50 to Space View Park on the north.
You won't be disappointed...the view and sound are awesome.
Unlike the KSC Visitors Center, you'll be able to see Atlantis on the pad from there.

Per L2, no change to the launch dates. Remain as perviously scheduled.

Wow what a relief, no $900 ticketchanging:-)
Is there anyone who has experienced a night launch before? Any tips, beside the one a few comments above?
I suppose the launchpad will be in full bright light...

Oh yeah... you'll have no problem seeing the pad. It'll be lit up like a beacon by those xenons. And the only advise I have is DO NOT look through binoculars during the SRB powered phase of flight. It's OK to bring them to look at the pad during the countdown and to follow the light from the main engines after SRB sep, but the light from the SRBs is going to be so intense that binoculars won't do you any good and you'll lose a lot of the significance of what the light from the SRBs does to the surrounding landscape.
While seeing any shuttle launch in person is awe-inspiring, a night launch really gives you a sense of the power and thrust involved in getting that 4.5 million pound vehicle off the launch pad.
Also, if the sky is clear, you'll be able to follow the light from Atlantis' main engines down to the horizon! That's about 7mins of viewable launch conditions.

Thanks Trekkie
If the launch will be at 1.30 am, what time is the best to take possition without standing on row 25?;-) I suppose a nightlaunch will be even crowded as in daylight?
Is the coastline near Titusville a possible viewoption? (looks so far away from the launchpad;-)
