Okay, so I've never been to a launch, but have wanted to since I went to space camp a LONG time ago. I was able to manipulate an Orlando Vacation for Oct 7-14 and planned it back in March.
I contacted my Senator/Representative, they contacted Nasa and said "they'd be in touch about a month before the launch". This month, I followed up and they said they still had my request, but do not know if they can provide tickets.
I get an e-mail from Delaware North saying tickets are going on sale, I login at the appointed time and WOO HOO, get 2 LTT tickets, the arrived a little while ago with car placard and everything...so I figure FINALLY, I'm gonna get to see a launch.
Fast forward to last Tuesday, I get an invitation to the launch from NASA...my Senator came through! I must say, I'm surprised..I thought it was a lost cause.
My Question: Can I return the LTT tickets if I got VIP passes?

I don't know about returning them, but you should check your Private Messages on this site.

Can someone in Titusville save me a parking space

Going to pick the wife up from work before the launch, and Leaving Savannah, GA at around 5pm. With a travel time about 4 hrs, I think we should be there before things get too crowded.
My 2 boys (6 and 3) are totally stoked about seeing it live, after watching the last 6 or so on Nasa Tv.
My sister was trying to get tickets from our Rep, but didn't file in time for my Birthday (Oct 8th)

Congrats on getting the NASA tickets!
I seem to have missed the "launch window" for tickets via my Representative. When they asked NASA for tickets to STS 125 on Sept. 7th NASA said the allotment had been distributed already. (Not that I was very surprised, at that date.)
My Representative's staff resubmitted my request for STS 126 and expects to hear about one month before liftoff, which would be early October.

I had to put in my request in April. I requested to view a shuttle launch in "October", so when STS-125 was moved to October, my request was still valid. Still, it wasn't until this week that they could tell me.

Im curious what you said to get the tickets from your senator. I tried to get tickets from them for STS-124. I sent them a letter and they never contacted me. They finally called me back, the day I was leaving for FL, with the phone number and website for KSC Visitors Center. I don't think they understood the point of my request. I will try again in for a launch on 2009, then next time I can go to one.
So any tips on the way to ask for tickets from your senator?

buy early for the best deals- run risk of changing the flight
buy close to the launch date and pay more- sleep better at night
i chose the first of the two for 126

If you have a few extra dollars maybe it is better to go with Southwest and get refundable tickets if you can. They also seem more flexible about allowing changes.
I have not made plane reservations yet since the launch date has not been firm. I just hope there are seats left if I finally decide I am going to go. The uncertainty over the date makes planning very difficult though. I'm sure others have found that to be the case. :-/

Do any of you guys in the know have an idea when a decision may be made on the potential launch delay? - Are there specific meetings that would need to happen first?
I'm in the UK and luckily work have decided to send me to Florida for a few days, a 24 hour delay to the launch and I can go see it. Are there any official / tour options for seeing it still left this late in the day?
Thanks.. Great site by the way!

May now be a 2 day delay meaning late night October 11th launch. KSC visitor complex tickets are still available
http://www.ksctickets.com/stspshat.htmlbut there are other viewing options which (with some pro's and con's) offer a better view.
Dave.

I think the program people want 10/13, but the crew is pushing for 10/14 because of lost training time due to Hurricane Ike. Both would be late night launches.

I bought Launch Transportation Tickets including Dine with an Astronaut when they were put on sale. At that time the launch were set to early October 8th so the Dine with an Astronaut event were set for the evening of October 7th. I had the impression that the Dine with and Astronaut event followed the launch date in the event of a delayed launch. This would now mean that the Dine with and Astronaut event would be on October 14th but when I look at the tickets it explicitly says “Valid on: 10/07/08”. Does anybody know if I understand it correctly that I both need to be at KSC on October 7th and on October 14th if I want to make use of my Dine with an Astronaut tickets as well as of course seeing the launch?

Read the information sheet that should have been included with your tickets. It states: "If the launch date moves or delays prior to launch day: Your meal with an Astronaut will be held on the new scheduled launch date." My guess is the time will also change so check when you get to KSCVC.
Update: An updated Launch Transportation Ticket Information sheet can be found here:

Thank you very much jeff2space. I’ve somehow missed that when I read the papers. And then when the Dine with an Astronaut tickets, as the only ones, explicitly said October 7th I got worried.

Hi all -
I've got a question about viewing the shuttle launch, but kind of the reverse of what this forum means by it.
I will be in Manhattan on the nights of the 14th and the 15th. I'm not sure if I'll have internet access, and certainly can't count on NASA TV on the hotel cable, so that safest thing for me to do would be to plan to watch the launch at some public location. I know that science museums sometimes have projection screens set up for this. Is anyone aware of something like this in New York? I've already searched a few NY museums (including AMNH / Hayden) and haven't found anything.
- Chris
P.S. I'm aware of the nighttime visibility up the coast (
http://a52.g.akamaitech.net/f/52/827/1d/www.space.com/images/061205_shuttle_vismap_02.jpg ), and if the skies are clear I'll be heading outside after SRB sep
