Thanks for that.
What a great resource this is !
I've noted a couple of other useful hints for viewing launches in this thread too, that may well be handy when the time comes for me and the family to get over there.
I'm looking forward to reading the reports of posters, (in just a few short weeks ) of how their launch viewing experience was for them.

Hi!
I have a schedule constraint and would only be able to arrive in Titusville at around 12:30am on October 8th. Is it doable? I mean, is it possible to arrive that late, find a place to park and, most of all, a place to see the launch well?
thanks for the advice

Hi, new to this forum which i discovered while googling for launch info,
I tried to get LTT:s for STS-125 online when they went on sale but half an hour before it was just impossible to access the webpage - later when I got in all LTT:s were sold out so I bought mine from grayline tours instead.
A bit more expensive but insignificant compared to the cost of flying over from Sweden, probably going to stay and watch the landing as well.
Any other scandinavians who are going to watch the launch?

Not an issue now launch is looking like the 11th. Dont book anything till the vehicle is on the pad. Its so much more reliable....

I agree the extra cost is insignificant but compared to the standard ticket you have less flexibility. It is signifcantly more expensive once you take into account that there is no KSC admission included and that in the event of a scrub after you have boarded the bus from where ever you set off from you have all but used up your ticket etitlement. All being well though all will go well and we will all see a great launch. See you at the causeway :-) (any view is great)

Excerpt from their refund policy:
http://www.grayline.com//Grayline/GraylineAssets/files/franchises/061207OrlandoLaunchPolicy.pdf"In the event of a scrub prior to guests having been transported
to the LTT Viewing Site, the following policy will be in effect:
<snip>
•• Gator Tours will give pax the option of keeping their LTT tickets and
rescheduling for the next launch attempt. Gator will charge a
nominal additional transport fee for these guests for their second
trip to KSCVC, covering their transport costs."
I guess that it means that if I have boarded the causeway bus I'm out of luck but if I'm not mistaken the same policy applies to LTT:s obtained from KSC.

If the shuttle is delayed, will the launchtime change also?
Yes, the launch window for HST opens approx. 30 minutes earlier each day the launch slips back. A three day slip in the launch would put it right around midnight the morning of the 11th. A four day slip would put it around 11:30 PM on the 11th.

So actuately a delay till oct 11 is 4 more days instead of 3..? Early morning oct 8 -late evening oct 11...
Anyone who has experience with the Grayline causeway tour?

Depends on whether it's the window that opens at 0003 local or the one that opens at 2336 local. (Former is three days, latter is four.)

Any idea if the 24hr Atlantis rollout delay will have any impact on the launch date?
I'm just trying to find out how many contingency days are left and what may cause a further delay in the launch date.

No, but that is a processing thread question. The 11th is workable with this 24 hour delay, payload was the problem, not the rollout date.

I hope it is only 24 hours. Cable nets are saying Hanna will hit FL as late as Friday. No guarantee that will be the last storm of the season either.
I am just eager for things to be on track since it is so difficult to make reservations. I am assuming the 8th is out. I made some lodging reservations for the 11th but that remains a big if too. This is going to be a hard one to plan for.

Hi guys,
I've been following this thread and managed to get 2 STS-125 causeway launch tickets including the astronaut lunch. It will be my first shuttle launch and I'm really looking forward to it. It should be an awesome sight, especially given that it's a night launch.
For the more seasoned campaigners, when is the best time to take the gamble and book flights/accommodation? Is it pretty safe once the shuttle has rolled to the pad or is there some other landmark in the processing flow I should wait for before committing to flights and hotels? I understand that issues can delay launch all the way up to T-0, just looking for advice on when the launch date is solid enough to start making travel arrangements.

Well, they've used up almost (if not all) of their contingency days, so it seems likely that they'll at least slip to the 11th. But other than that, it depends on how many contingency days are left, and the nature of any problems they may encounter. Scrubbing due to weather (or other issues) is likely and happens on launch day, so that's hard to predict in advance.
I'd wait to see when she rolls out, as that will have a lot of bearing on the launch date. Then, make sure you're down there for as long as you can be after the predicted date. If you stay a week after that date, you'll most likely catch the launch if scrubbed a few times, and you can enjoy a vacation as well.

Best thing to do is to check the updates on the processing thread. Chris will post changes as they happen via L2, and L2 is real time managers decisions on launch dates and any problems with the vehicle.
I'd wait till she rolls out to the pad.

Thanks guys, that's sound advice. Will hold off until it gets to the pad and any launch date slip from the 8th is confirmed.

It has slipped from the 8th. At least 10-11th, maybe a bit more.
