"Sounds like a computer/software related problem...

Obviously the hw and sw were all tested on the ground but nothing beats "Implementation" for bugs to pop up...."
Well tests are never as realistic as the real thing. Problem is figured out. The primary MDM will be swapped shortly and this should be fixed. Issue is with the interface in CCS, not with Columbus. This is what happens when you have major interfaces not tested in a flight like configuration. Software testers always assure you they have tested everything

Thank you for the kind compliments everyone on our coverage today, I enjoy doing this and I am glad to see others enjoy my work too

I will not be able to provide coverage like this for the next mission STS-123, as the EVAs will probably occur in the middle of the night (my time, eastern time) and I can't stay up all night to watch them unfortunately
Rex is inside the airlock, Hans has just ingressed into the airlock, the thermal cover is soon to be closed.
The complex is passing over the Dakotas, 4 minutes to handover to East, 12 minutes to sunset. This completes my last post today for today's EVA #2, see you all again for the last EVA #3 for this flight on Friday!

Bye everyone for today!
The final PET will be close to 6:50 or 7:00 the way things look now.

Now that the EVAers are in the air lock and things are slowing down here there is an "interesting" headline on MSNBC. "Sick Astronaut ventures out of space station". I thought for sure that this was from our favorite reporter Marcia. I was half right as it was an AP news report. However it was by Liz Austin Peterson. Clicking on the above misleading headline took me to the report that had the new title of "Sick astronaut is well enough for spacewalk"
Hans Schlegel, who's recovered from illness, will replace nitrogen tank
Wonderful titles. The report was, however, correctly reported if you ignore the headlines.

Thanks a lot everyone for keeping this thread up to date - if I watch NASA TV too much I get fair usage policy warnings from my ISP, so this site is a godsend.

Maybe off topic, but can someone quickly refresh my memory on the story behind this MMOD shield being teethered down?
Please check the STS-118(13A) EVA-3(Lab MMOD shield) and EVA-4(Same trouble was happend at Unity's MMOD shield).

If it's a software problem (as I hear), how does changing the hardware fix anything?

Today's mission status briefing (MSB) for FD 7 is now scheduled for 5:45 PM EST (10:45 PM GMT), according to NASA PAO.
The MMT has decided to add an additional FD to STS-122!

according to the PAO. Undocking will be on Monday, landing at 8:59 AM EST on Wednesday.

They are about to switch the Columbus C&C (command & control) computers so the C&C #2 will be prime and the C&C #1 will be a backup (that is the one they are having comm trouble with), this switch will take 30 - 45 minutes and during that time there will be NO KU from ISS and a period of short comm loss with ISS.
The MMT has also cleared all the TPS on Atlantis for entry according to the PAO today

pending late inspection of course.
