The satellite built by students of SRM University will be launched by ISRO this year.
On ISRO's GAGAN (GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation) project, Kibe said it will be used for landing of aircrafts with an accuracy of six metres and the target date of activating the system is 2012.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to implement the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) to provide India and neighbouring countries with the Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) service, S.V. Kibe, Brahmprakash Professor in the ISRO Headquarters, Bangalore, said on Wednesday.
The government had approved the project, which would be implemented in the next few years. Initially, the system would have seven satellites and then 11, he said, addressing the Space Summit at the 98th Indian Science Congress at Kattankulathur near here.
On the sidelines of the Space Summit session at the 98th Indian Science Congress Wednesday, T.K. Alex, director of the ISRO Satellite Centre, said: 'In March/April, we will launch communication satellites GSAT-8 from French Guyana using Ariane rocket. Later this year or early 2012, GSAT-10 will be launched again by Ariane.'
ISRO will also be launching GSAT-12 satellite using its own rocket - polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) in March/April, he said.
IAF Satellite
The first dedicated IAF satellite is scheduled for launch in FY 2011-12, after the Navy satellite scheduled for launch in FY 2010-11.
The satellite was initially scheduled to be launched in July 2009, according to a PTI report on November 18, 2008. In early January 2009, the IAF Chief said the IAF satellite will be launched in 2010.

The satellite is scheduled for launch in April this year with ISRO's Megatropics G satellite. We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the national space agency for the project," M. Loganathan, former ISRO scientist who is heading the team,
Key elements of the Ariane 5 launcher for Arianespace’s second flight of 2011 arrived at the Spaceport this week, where they will be readied for a dual payload mission with the Yahsat 1A and Intelsat New Dawn telecommunications satellites.
Microwave Remote Sensing Satellite -RISAT-1, Meteorological Satellite INSAT-3D, Communication Satellites such as GSAT-7 and GSAT-10 and two Indo-French Joint Missions viz., Megha-Tropiques and SARAL are the agency's major plans in the next year, Radhakrishnan said.

The Company plans to launch multiple satellites commencing with the first AIS-only satellite under our recently announced OHB/Luxspace agreement scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2011 and then followed by two of the 18 more powerful AIS-enabled Next Generation satellites. This plan includes the launch of up to four (two AIS-only and two OG2) satellites in 2011, on three separate launch vehicles.
