The ISRO chairman, relayed by the Hindu newspaper, spoke of 9 launches in the next 8 months. That's wonderful, we can expect then, one launch per month until the end of the year. The paper did mention an upcoming launch of GSAT 7A, and one or two more involving GSLV Mark 2, not including Chandrayaan-2. That's very impressive, if they actually stick to it! There are hints of 2 more PSLV missions as well. The next two missions seem to be GSAT-11 from Kourou, and GSLV Mark 3 with GSAT-29.

I thought GSAT-11 would be the last Indian satellite launched by Ariane ? 😳😳

According to my reading, GSAT 7A is a 2.5 tonne satellite, correct ? So why can’t ISRO launch it with GSLV MKII ?
Also, do we have confirmation by the French that this satellite would be launched from an Ariane rocket ?

It is highly likely GSAT-7A will be launched by GSLV. It would give isro a chance to test out the maxed out GSLV before using it to launch chandraayan-2 in october.
GSAT-7A lift off mass is between 2.6-2.7 tons and given maxed out GSLV should have GTO capacity of around 2.6 tons means a launch on GSLV should be possible.

GSAT-7A targeted for September on GSLV MkII, RISAT-2A by the end of the year
Isro will launch a dedicated satellite, Gsat-7A, for the Indian Air Force (IAF) in September and an advanced remote sensing satellite, Risat-2A, for surveillance purpose by the end of the year.
Gsat-7A, which will be lifted by a GSLV Mk II rocket, will enable the IAF to interlink different ground radar stations, airbases and AWACS aircraft. It will also boost the IAF’s network-centric warfare capabilities and enhance its global operations.

July 2018; cross-post:
The GSLV-MK III mission, planned in July for launch of 4.4 ton satellite will be powered by a liquid core stage L110 stage, which uses two high pressure Vikas engine for combined high thrust
Slip to July is confirmed
Also GTO payload capacity of GSLV MK-3 will be increased to 4.4 tons from D2 mission onwards. The LEO payload capacity should also be increased to around 8.8 tons.
