SpaceX has been talking about a Cape launch site for over three years.  Take a look under the "Media/Media Coverage" tab on their web site (www.spacex.com).  There is a Florida Today article from Dec '02 covering the same topic.  It also says they were expecting to have a first launch in 2004.  Although the recent article says they can be ready to launch from Florida in 18 months, you may want to think twice before booking a Disney holiday in mid-2007 with hopes of also catching the inaugral Florida Falcon launch.

They also said it on the live thread from the previous launch attempt that they would love to use one of the complexes at the Cape, especially for Falcon 5 and 9s.

The main reason I posted this article was that they mentioned some specific launch pads.  I really hope they can use one or both of the old Atlas II/III pads.  They are a nice view from the beach and closer than the other pads mentioned.

I just hope the mega-bureaucracy at the Cape can move quickly enough to facilitate choosing the Cape for launches.  So many have chosen other venues for launch, and I have read that the bureaucracy is a big factor in choosing other venues.

Cheers,

Larry

Trying to image where those pads are on the map of the Cape. Anyone got an image?

Yes, in fact as far as I can recall all of those quotes and facts from SpaceX's Gwynne Shotwell were directly taken from the dial-in line on last weeks launch attempt.  I guess Florida Today had a slow news day and decided to pull in some copy from last week.
But, that doesn't mean it isn't worthy of coverage.

That makes sense. The Stick only needs its LOX/LH2 high up--which is also where Titan IV had its cryogenics loaded for Centaur--so it's pad is a perfect fit.
