The new foam patches just haven't darkened as much as the foam around them. Not really that uncommon
Not only that, they're of different type of foam(BX-265 vs NCFI). NCFI is sprayed on by a large robotic device at MAF so it is applied evenly. BX-265 is applied by hand.

It would be pretty awkward to get a foam sraying robot in the VAB without it getting in the way if minor repairs needed to be done!

They don't - as noted above, the repairs are manual.

Thanks for the added info Dave. What does the 'NC' in NCFI stand for?

Is Mike Lienbach going to be the Launch Director?
1) It's Leinbach.
2) Most likely. As far as I know, the notes of Doug Lyons in all the press releases being the Launch Director is a mistake and they forgot to add Assistant before Launch Director.
Just took a look at the press kit and it states the Mike Leinbach is the KSC Launch Director. Jeff Spaulding will the be NTD with George Diller as the Pre-launch PAO.
Rob Navias will the ascent PAO while also serving as the Entry PAO. The various mission PAOs is as following
Orbit 1: Nicole Lemasters
Orbit 2: Pat Ryan
Orbit 3: TBD in the press kit

The Press Kit is hugely interesting, I recommend reading it to everyone interested in Columbus. Answers some interesting questions like future exposure experiments and the exact payloads and experiments to be carried out in the racks.

Just to note, there is some troubleshooting going on at the pad. We're working it on L2 as far as constraint to launch (but not likely). No showstoppers.
Waiting for Mr Hale's standup meeting to finish then we'll write up anything interesting.

From the above, it should be clear the STS-122 press kit is out!!!

Let's try and find some typos!
*Page 59 (Wrong mission on caption!)
*Page 61 (Wrong module on photo caption again!)
*Page 62 (and again!)
