DaveS, many thanks. I really appreciate the time you put into generating that very interesting list. I'm trying to interpret it from the point of view of "when do I buy my air tickets, with reasonable certainty that I will see the launch?".

Out of the 9 launches in your list (noting that one hasn't happened yet), and making some estimate of the number of days before each delay that the decision to delay would have been taken, I reckon that if I buy my air tickets a month in advance of the then-current estimated date (and say I book a week's holiday in Florida), there is a slightly better than 50/50 chance of seeing the STS-124 launch. Not great odds! Interestingly, this is a problem that many people must grapple with, and I'm surprised to not find any whiz-bang travel insurance plan to cope with this situation.

Thanks again - any further comments welcome, of course.

Remember this is for processing news, not your travel arrangements, so please use the STS-123 Viewing thread for that. Thanks.

In the VAB, they have six SRB segments up, and RH forward segment went up last night.

Additional processing note from L2:

"On OV-103, finished work in engine shop. Must still install engine 2 on vehicle. Engine 2048 went through all critical milestones last week; will do final walkdowns this week. Will install that engine after complete removing the three engines from OV-104. That should line up for a March 4 installation in OV-103. "

Things are going so fast in the program at this point I can't keep up with it all.  Boosters, tanks and orbiters flying all over the place.  Literally ;) Thanks for the heads up.  Great to see the progression, even if the flight is delayed for a month.

Chris, it seems like the EVA on STS-120 for SAW repair gave valuable experience in prolonging the life of the OBSS while unpowered, why no mention of this in the article?  Or am I off base here?  Did I miss the post-flight health assessments of the OBSS after 120?

Edited to add: Overall a very good article, as usual for this site.

From the way I read it, the lessons learned from STS-120 will be applied in the way of testing the sensor packages after the OBSS is transfered back to the Shuttle arm.

Furthermore, just because the OBSS sensors survived one 9hr un-powered excursion, doesn't necessarily justify trying it again or increasing the amount of planned un-powered time.

What the STS-120 data does provide is some reassurance that if the astronauts are running behind in the timeline, the OBSS sensor packages will most likely be OK if the un-powered time is violated for a small amount of time.

Obviously you don't want the package going unpowered longer than it was designed to.  But what I was trying to say is exactly what you do in the 3rd part of your post.  It means that there is data to support being able to extend the unpowered time during the EVA if absolutely necessary.

So, no problems being worked right now? That is great news if there is no problems at all.

You're on the world's best shuttle site. If there was, you'd know about it by now ;)

Only shot I can see would presumably be Atlantis (PLB is closed).

When the following steps are scheduled?

1- Arrival of ET-128 at KSC
2- Stacking of ET-128 to MLP/SRB
3- Rollout of Discovery for STS-124

Thanks for reply.
