I've read that passengers on the Space Shuttle are allowed to take iPods on-board
So the burning question is... What songs are on the astronauts' iPods?
Veering off-course: President George W. Bush's iPod has the likes of John Fogerty and the Knack's hit song "My Sharona" (
source).

I've read that Ipods have to be modified for use on shuttle to get rid of the Li-ion batteries and run on standard AA alkalines. Makes me wonder about the laptops used on both shuttle and ISS. I assume they have had their batteries removed, and run on external power... correct?

That is the coolest video I've seen from the ISS in a long time. Don Petit is awesome with all of those mini lectures he did.

On NASA KSC TV feed, camera 315 shows them loading something. Is this new or an old picture and if new, what are they loading?

Thanks. That is what I thought it was, but must have missed the other thread. Posted the picture in that thread.

When a tank arrives at KSC from MAF, it goes into a checkout cell for quite a long time (three weeks?) before mated with the SRBs. When the orbiter arrives as the VAB from the OPF, it gets mated to the tank nearly right away.
I'm wondering what work on the tank has to be done in the checkout cell that requires such a long time, and why more of that work is not completed at MAF before shipment. I understand the need to check out the tank after the long trip on the Pegasus barge (versus the short Orbiter rollover from the OPF), but this seems like a long time for just checkouts of the relatively-simple (compared to the orbiter) tank.

Not flown. The only remaining one I'm aware of is used to test astronaut applicants for claustrophobia.

In the NSF article on the change of runways at Edwards for shuttle, it says how the STS-123 rollout was one of the longest in shuttle history. Why was this and what was the shortest & longest ever?

So if a Shuttle has to go and pick up a strandard crew like it is proposed for STS 125 they would not use these Ball's they would use EVA suits ?

It seems like the CDR/PLT didn't use the wheel brakes as much as they could have which led to a slightly longer than normal rollout on the SLF.

Why are the forward and aft RCS tanks not linked therefore not allowing for trim adjustments helping with re-entry and landing?

Not sure, but there was a planned upgrade to interconnect them, which was eventually cancelled.
