Is the port side SARJ also halted because of the P6 array tear? The answer to the last question made it sound like it was.

I was confused by that too, but I believe that's what he said.

Another unclear thing for me was if the SSRMS could get an EVA crewmember out there and work with the blankets? Was the problem described in the briefing that it could be done, but it was not easy to move around because the arm would be at full length?

Apologies if this was posted already, but two photos of the tear taken by the crew:

I believe that what was said that Port SARJ will be halted but BGA movements will continue.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow.  Best shot yet, and most promising... It looks to me like two hinges hung up on each other when they were restacked.  It looks like just the one hinge unzipped.  You can also see where some of the protective covering over the "strings" tore loose and is missing.

That truly looks like a go out and clip the hinge where it's unzipped and continue the deployment.

The arm cannot reach that far, I think at full lenght it would only reach about 1/3 of the SAW, if not less, and without much maneuverability, as you say. They'd have to retract most of the array, but that could worsen the problem, or make it reappear (remember we don't know what caused the rip in the first place) Maybe using the OBSS? But probably it's not remotely certified to do anything like that, and less being the SSRMS the one which grapples it.

Not an obvious solution to this one.

But it is certified to go under the belly of the shuttle with a crewmember to pull out gap fillers?  ;)

OBSS is out due to to risk for sensor packages damage to freezing. Only the SRMS can supply electrical power needed to operate the heaters.

The SSRMS LEEs are of a different design and cannot supply the electrical power.

Will the OBSS get power when they stow it at the station on a later mission?

Yes, it is. That's a very different situation, where the loads are applied in different sections of the arm (the SSRMS can only grapple it in the middle effector, while the SRMS grapples it at the end), power cannot be supplied to the IR and instrument box (situation which will not be allowed because of concerns of not being able to do a late inspection)

The experiment in 121 was only a contingency procedure for a very narrow situation, and I'm pretty sure it cannot be gracefully extended to any other issue that arises. Of course, if no other option was available and there was an imminent danger to the crew/Shuttle/Station, they'd probably try to do it anyway, but that's far from happening.

No. For that they will remove the sensor packages during an EVA. Something that the crews on this mission isn't trained for.

Very good point.  Mike S. was asked whether the OBSS could be used for this repair.  He said they were looking in to it..

Dina Contella acknowledged this as well before the briefing began, but mentioned that it would not completely rule out use of the OBSS.

Polyamide Kapton, according to this document.

Remember, he's ISS and the OBSS is Shuttle. So the OBSS isn't part of his program so he has to ask the Shuttle program to risk a very critical tool and the OBSS team will most likely object to this because:

A: It's dangerous, reckless and irresponsible.
B: None of the EV crewmembers either in the 120 or Incr16 crews have any SAW training whatsoever.

On 116 and 117 Fuglesang, Curbeam, Reilly and Olivas had received extensive SAW training preflight.

Not so for the 120 or Incr16 crews.

There's no post-MMT briefing on the NASA TV schedule for this afternoon/evening, but due to the "eventful day," does anyone know if one has been scheduled? Any more briefings before the flight director update at 9:30pm tonight?

Nope. ISS Flight Director update is the only one.

Please explain how this would dangerous, reckless or irresponsible.

In answer to the question quoted, when the OBSS is stowed on station there is a plan to either provide power to the sensor package or have EVA remove the sensor package.

The SSRMS can only grab the FRGF in the middle of the OBSS as it does when handing off to the SRMS.

thanks for information...it donīt seem to be a rupture ins this material...its more a problem of the connection between the single parts...looks a little bit like an open zip...
