"The tear appears to be 2.5 feet long. It does not from the power standpoint does not appear to have damaged the power lines.

"How it's torn, I'd hate to speculate. It appears to have seperated at the hinge from the panel.

Option of using OBBS for reach for Solar Array repair is not possible, but SSRMS is. Would need to retract the array a bit.

He did mention using OBSS on SSRMS as an option, and he also said they're off looking at the possibility of grappling at the end, even though that's not a station arm grappling location.  So it's just probably not possible to use the OBSS with the SRMS (Shuttle arm) to reach the location.  At least, that's what I thought I heard - he's really packing the information in!

"All we need out of the arrays is power. Doesn't need to look good, we just need the power."

Great quote..... Montgomery Scott couldn't have said it better.....

The primary aim of EVA-4 is to inspect the SARJ, but they will attempt to clean it with a glove, sweeping upwards to avoid bunching of the debris.

that is - sweeping sideways, 90 degrees from the direction of travel.

"We don't know when the snag occured. About half way through the deploy (for camera) it seemed ok.

"The begining (of deploy) is command intensive (opening blanket box etc.) and mainly MCC. Once we got to one deloy out, we hand responsibility to the crew on orbit. From a laptop they deployed out (from there)."

Question was about who was in control.

Looks like the press is looking for scapegoat for the deployment issue.

Mike S considers the Russian computer problems as more challenging than the array, but it's "in the eye of the beholder"

Looks like the press is looking for scapegoat for the deployment issue.

That sickens me.  Cant something not work just because we are in an unknown environment, and stuff happens?  Why is it always someone's fault?

Marcia Dunn asks why do anything if you've got the power.

"It's about the structural integrity."

Great question on the structural integrity....

See? Dunn can gfet a good one in there once in a while...... Though hopefully this doesn't lead to the "Space Station is Falling Apart, and Doomed" story...

Don't just look at the line of questioning in a negative light... They could also be trying to highlight the professional way this has been handled by crew and console and wanted IDs....

"I wouldn't want to plan the IE (STS-122) flight until I know what's going on with this array. But we'll know better before this shuttle (STS-120) leaves."

Standing ovation for Mike - he handled that really, really well.  Tons of information, little speculation, zero panic.  Well done.

That's pretty much it. More positive.

On the "who was in charge" - one of the journos asking was Traci Watson and she's not a negative writer, so let's not assume a negative motive for that question.

Mike S did well, nice and calm. Almost Hale-esk.

Is the port side SARJ also halted because of the P6 array tear? The answer to the last question made it sound like it was.
